Professional massages
Dr. Hazani recommended that I started my massages at home during my first post op appointment (2 day post op). I have been massaging myself daily since; a lot of fluid disappeared or hardened - is this fibrosis?!
During week 3.5 post op, I contemplated on seeking a professional for massages. Dr. Hazani says it’s not necessary, and I spent many nights researching about this topic - there a lot of pages from surgeons saying that it may increase with healing (swelling), but patients are often left with the same results in the end - so I thought to myself is it worth the extra expense to help my swelling? Let me tell you, this surgery is more than what is stated at face value (investing in supplies, food, garment, massages, etc).
I finally decided to see a professional for lymphatic drainage massage and to help with what I think is fibrosis. I booked my first massage during my 5 weeks post op. I have a lot of small hard lumps on my side and a few on my abs and back - I do feel a difference with these massages. The hard spots are getting smaller! I do want to sync up with someone that have had similar situation as me, but decided to not get professional massages. I’m also curious if the massages are absolutely necessary or not.

SUMMARY
=================
Post op DAY 7-8:
- Bruising/swelling traveled to my lower legs (day 7) and foot (day 8)
Post op DAY 11:
- Can now bend down and touch the floor
Post op DAY 14:
- 2 weeks post op appointment with Dr. Hazani
=================
DETAILS
=================
POST OP DAY 7 - 8
------------------------------
As each day pass, the swelling on my thighs are getting better. Today was when I noticed the swelling and bruising traveling downward to my shins and to my foot (by day 8). It travels downward bc of gravity.
------------------------------
POST OP DAY 9 - 11
------------------------------
How did I manage to lose 5lbs within these 2 days (from 147 to 142)?! I’m hoping it has to do with the swelling/water retention because I do not want to lose any volume.
I couldn’t bend down to grab stuff off the floor because my vagina was so swollen; however, on day 10&11, it marks the day where I was able to comfortable to bend down without being in too much discomfort -YAY! Also, I’d say I feel a lot better! No pain at all, just discomfort (lower back pain) from being on my stomach the whole time. I’m finding myself sleeping for a longer duration and waking up less in the middle of the night. I have been getting 6.5-8 hours of sleep each day, but they’re more like 3 hour naps throughout the day - anyone else experiencing this, too?
------------------------------
POST OP DAY 14
------------------------------
Had my 2 week post op appointment with Dr. Hazani. Everything seems to look good and went over my questions. Can take off my binder off in a couple of days (OMG, YAY! That thing is so uncomfortable to sleep in). My next appointment will be in 6 weeks. I had a pocket of fluid that I couldn’t massage out, so he drained it.
------------------------------
POST OP DAY 15+
------------------------------
Not much of a difference here. No pain, just back pain from being in ‘unnatural position’ from being on my stomach.
