The Journey Continues...

Almost 2.5 years ago, I started taking my oral health seriously. It started out with a desire to cap my tooth that was chipped since 8th grade. Unfortunately, I had to get a deep cleaning before anything was done, since the last time I went to the dentist was probably 1st grade (almost two decades ago at that time).
That cleaning sucked, as I had so much stuff built up and had sore gums, but that was my first step. A couple of weeks later, I got my filling for my tooth, so I was super pleased. We then scheduled to get all four of my wisdom teeth to get pulled out to make room for braces, which didn’t go according to plan, as I broke the dentist’s tools and was referred to an oral surgeon (I have strong bone).
After the last round, I just got into the habit of getting my teeth cleaned, until I moved to Plainsboro, NJ.
I ended up switching dentists and started taking the idea of braces more seriously. My new dentist then referred me to Dr. Tony Tyan of Sweet Smile Orthodontics in Plainsboro for a free consultation after my cleaning this past July.
After my initial consultation, I realized that he was the guy for me, so I started my process of getting a “perfect smile”. We took molds, x-rays, and pictures of my teeth, face, etc., and he went more in depth with my case (I have a Case 1 Malocclusion with spacing issues at the top and crowding in the bottom and a pretty severe overbite because of how the bottom front teeth are positioned). In addition, I also have a smile that shows my top gums, and facial asymmetry, where my face deviates to the left. Braces can’t fix these issues, but I’ll be able to get jaw surgery to correct some of these issues.
Today, I got my braces installed. Unfortunately, the spacers didn’t work, but my orthodontist improvised and ended up going with a plan that will have me eating a lot of soup for about 6 weeks.
I’m super excited to see how I’ll look like at the end of all of this, so we’ll see how the next two years pan out. ????

They’re Straightening Out More!!
I got my braces put on August 20, 2018, and attached are a couple of pictures (ashy lips included). I’m amazed at where my teeth started and their current state.
I still have a little over 1.5 years on my treatment, but I enjoy it so much.

Six Months In...
February 20, 2019 marked six months into my braces journey. Based on the timeline of treatment, that means that I have 18 months left. I’m so excited with how my teeth look so far, and I am excited/anxious about the end results!!
