WORTH IT
I have been overweight my entire life, i decided to get my life back. My very dear friend helped me this entire journey, she got sleeved a year ago and she kept pushing until I got mine.
My experience has been very easy , sometimes I wonder if I actually got sleeved. I had no pain whatsoever. After 2 weeks when I resumed work I felt weak and tired but that has since changed.
The weight doesn't seem to be dropping as quickly as I hoped, I have lost 9kg in 6 weeks , is that ok?
My only fear is not to expand my new tummy, but I don't notice when I am full until it's too late.

Welcome to the community and thanks so much for offering your opinion of your doctor.

It would be great if you could give us a little more detail about your experience, like why you had the surgery, your tips for getting good results, pros/cons, and info on the recovery process.

As a community manager, I get requests all the time from other members who want me to to keep encouraging people to share their experiences, which are so helpful for others considering these procedures. So please accept this as a well-intentioned request from thousands.

Hey there I was sleeved. By Dr Dillemans seven weeks ago! I often wonder if I have actually had the procedure as all has been pretty good with me too. I would agree that there is no aftercare at all that's why it's really useful to have this community to ask people questions. Hope you continue to have a good journey xxxx

Thank you Amanda, it is good to meet someone who used the same doctor. We can do this, let's keep encouraging each other .
Is your tummy accepting all food or picky? I basically seem to accept everything.
September 25, 2015
Yes it is nice as I had not known anybody who had used Dr Dillimans before. No, my stomach is fine, accepting of pretty much anything really. I did have a Tara Dahl - lentil curry, mild but that did not go well. I got sweaty, dizzy and generally felt a bit horrid but it didn't last long and that was about a week and a half ago. I just concluded that it was probably a bit to aromatic.
Do you feel Hungary at all? I don't, I'm so glad, I read on hear that people are really hungry, that must be hard.
I'm seven weeks and one day out and have lost 34 lbs in total, including the pre op diet. I have stalled at. The moment which is really frustrating. From what I have read tho it should move along so. I do hope so.

How much have you lost? Do you live in the UK?

Hi Amanda, yes I do get hungry but not so badly. I have lost only 10kg which is about 22lbs, I haven't weighed in a week though. It also appears I have also stalled but I hope it gets moving again. I made the mistake of drinking bottled soy milk which I thought was low fat without realizing it contained sugar , and I basically drank it for 4 weeks I feel so bad.
Anyway I will pick myself up and try again.
No I don't live inUK , I visit though

Ahhh yes, maybe ley off the soy milk. The weight loss will pick up again. Just need to drink lots of water, eat lots of protein rich low fat foods and exercise. I need to get a lot better at all three!! Especially the exercise. I'm going to track how many calories I'm eating and grams of protein as I have not been writing all this down. I though I may post some pics of how much I'm eating in a portion to gain some feedback to see if it's about right. I don't want to stress or stretch my new stomach.
Where in the world are you? Did you have to travel a long way to Brugge? Brugge was beautiful, well, what little I saw of it anyway! I plan to go back one day for a proper explore.

Hey Amanda, how are you? We haven't chatted in ages. How is the weight loss going? My weight is dropping and I am a happy girl, it is unbelievable . I am weighing 88kg , lost a total of 20kg which is 44 pounds . I am amazed about how different I look, crossing my legs is an icing on the cake lol. My family is very proud and I am so thankful I am getting my life back

Hi ladies! I just had mine done in thur with dr dillemans. Went through the exact same scenario. I felt that the dietician was very vague in terms of what and when to eat and how much water etc etc. currently at the airport going back to London and the home to Copenhagen on Tuesday . Feeling fine apart from the occasionally pinch . Also haven't slept very well as its only day 2 post op and Would like to sleep on my side. I think that either I am too scared to eat too much and sleep on my side . They never mentioned anything about the Amount of protein that I need as a minimum and gave me lots of paperwork for the 1st 4 weeks of food schedule . I don't know if I am feeling overwhelmed right now or lost. But hopefully when I see some loss it will be ok. So far for the day I managed 3 tablespoons of yoghurt for breakfast before I left the hotel and then o got a organic tomatoe soup for lunch at the airport . Could only manage 1/4 of the bowl . But I found the warmth helped with the trapped gas . Any more advice for the 1st few weeks would be much appreciated in terms of how you keep your water going and how to incorporate protein in whilst in the liquid phase??
August 6, 2016
Good job, you are doing well. I took my protein shake to help with meeting up my protein intake. Pls don't be overwhelmed.
August 6, 2016
Yes I think that I need to find a protein shake that I can tolerate and maybe something that I can mix into my food like the sanatogen one from boots. Have you tried it?? That way at least I can try and up my protein levels

Sometimes a journey like this has severe ups and downs and it leaves you feeling frustrated and upset! But I think you are doing really well! It's a marathon not a race, one baby step at a time! It may be slow but the scale is going the right way! Stay positive it will steadily get better! Would love to see pics!
October 3, 2015
Thank you so much, I feel better now. Also I was able to identify the problem, I was un knowingly consuming sugar from soy milk and cereal that showed no label of containing sugar. Hopefully the weight will drop again
October 4, 2015
I know how you feel. The scale has not moved for me for over three weeks now. It's so disheartening. I am doing all the things I am meant to but I don't get any reward. Very frustrating. Glad you have identified what the issue may be so at least you c an do something about it. I try to keep things in perspective, thinking that my body is still adjusting to my new stomach and just keep going. No other choice really. At least the scale is not going up and up as it was for me before! I'm going to pick up on my excersize to try and restart the weight loss. Hang on in there, we CAN do this!!! [RS bleep]

Giving more details

I decided to give an account of my own journey. I arrived Brugge for my consultation on Wednesday , I met with the nutritionist , she went straight to point, BMI 43, beginning weight 107.5kg. Afterwards I met with the very handsome Dr Bruno Dilemans, he truly calmed my nerves, he basically said I had nothing to be afraid about. He said I could go ahead and enjoy a nice lunch but nothing again after 8 or 9pm. I totally binged for my last lunch, I had road side meal, fries and burger and some wings. Around midnight I totally panicked because my meal had refused to digest , I was scared stiff.
Thursday morning, I was up bright and early, I was supposed to check in by 7 am
Check in was smooth and I was the first of 5 other scheduled surgeries . The attendant wheeled me to the theatre, when he discovered who my Dr was he said oh you have nothing to fear, Dr Dilemans is the best.
The anesthesia was administered by a Prof, I panicked for a second when they tried placing the mask , next thing I realized I was awake and I remember saying to myself when will they start this surgery, till I felt the BP monitor start to take my readings and I then realized I have been sleeved and yes! I am alive.
I was taken to the recovery room and I slept a lot, next thing I was taken once again to my room and I slept a lot. I had no pains whatsoever, I wondered if I was actually sleeved. The nurses and junior doctors kept checking at intervals but didn't communicate much.
Friday I sat up and didn't use a bed pan I went to the toilet myself , the doctors checked me again, Dr Dilemans came in and said everything went well and I was a strong woman lol! I was given Evan water spray yogurt , took only about 2 -3 spoons and gave up. I left the hospital at about 4pm
Saturday morning the nurse visited and I was given the clear. I was still in no pain at all. I was given the pain medication to take orally and then I got nauseous it was horrid, that was the last time I took the medication since I was in no pain at all.
In all it has been a great experience

My surgery is with dr dillemans tomm. I am currently at Brussels airport waiting my hubby so we can go to the pre op appointment today at 2 pm. I am absolutely so so so scared of what's to come tomm and hope that mine goes as easy as yours. I am terrified of pain and then having to travel back to London on Saturday evening. I hope the pain meds are strong enough and I don't wake up during surgery . How were your incisions?? How many and also the weight loss??
August 6, 2016
My apologies , I am just seeing this chat. I had 5 incisions . I was given a target of 75kg by the Dr and I would be 1 year in a few days and I made my goal weight . You will be fine my dear . Pls give me your story cos I know you have been sleeved now Apologies again for not being prompt in my response
