I got my first set of trays last Thursday. The first day I had them in, I was surprised by how easy it was to remove them and put them back in. I was also pleasantly surprised by how they felt, they weren't bothersome or painful. I talked very strangely but I knew that was something I had to get used to. However, the next few days came and I began to notice how irritated my mouth was getting the edges of the trays. My cheeks and under tongue were so irritated and painful I could barely drink water. Today, my cheeks feel better, but my tongue is still extremely irritated and tender. I'm hoping this is something that just takes getting used to. I've also had pretty rancid breath. My orthodontist didn't suggest any cleaning techniques other than brushing the trays with soap, water, and a toothbrush. I'm going to start soaking them in water and white vinegar twice a day. I've read from other posts on here that this may help reduce the odor. Overall, I'm not totally discouraged. I knew this was going to be a commitment, and I knew it wasn't going to be easy. I have a wonky cross bite. My smaller canine is a baby tooth that never came out. The adult tooth grew in on my palate which was removed when I had my wisdom teeth taken out. My orthodontist is confident that my baby tooth will survive this process, but I'm prepared to get an implant if and when that happens. I go back to get the "buttons" put on in about a week and half, I'll continue to update my progress!

I use retainer bright. It kills the germs that cause bad breath. Has helped me with that and keeping buildup off of my aligners. Especially when I got attachments and my aligners had the attachment nooks in them, stuff wanted to buildup in the nooks and a toothbrush an toothpaste wast cutting it! I hope your mouth feels better! Maybe talk to your ortho about fixing some sharp edges to help with irritation?

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into that! I've been soaking them twice a day in white vinegar and water and that has been helping. I haven't had the attachments put on yet so I may have to look into the retainer bright when that happens.

I wanted to try the vinegar but never did have any in the house!

Hydrogen peroxide and water works well as a soak. Ks, Your teeth look pretty good as is, mine are pretty good as well, I just have a few lower teeth that suddenly decide to turn around on me and middle-age. I am on tray 2 first week so we are pretty close on our journeys:) my tongue is not happy, and I get the dreaded buttons in two weeks which I'm sure will not be the most pleasant. I'm also losing weight, which is fine the first couple pounds but I need to figure out what to eat that will hold me long enough, I am used to eating salads and grazing on nuts, veggies, crackers and hummus, etc. I need to start eating burgers and spaghetti casserole, lol, big meals twice a day...That grazing doesn't work with invisalign!

Yeah, your teeth look great already! People have asked me why I'm even doing Invisalign because "I don't need it" and while I appreciate that they think my teeth are fine, I don't think they are and there's a lot I'm insecure about. So since I've never had braces before I said hey why not go for it. I haven't lost any weight yet.. but that's probably because I live off pizza, beer, and pasta! I would like to lose a little weight but not too much. I need to work on my diet in general because I'm a burger and pizza fiend and need to start making healthier choices. And my tongue doesn't hurt anymore! Probably because I got used to this set of trays but I'm sure I'll be having a tough time when I get my new ones plus the buttons this week. It's nice to know we're pretty much on the same time frame, I'll check in with your updates to see how it's all going for you :)

I had the same problem with mine, irritating my tongue and cheeks. I was so discouraged because it hurt SO bad, especially my tongue. My orthodontist recommended taking a nail file to the rough spots. It aunt work well for me, but my file might have been too dull, and I was too nervous about breaking them. But today is day 5 for me, and that pain has subsided. Still a little trouble talking normal, but definitely better. For cleaning I just spend extra time getting the toothbrush in on different angles. I don't have attachments until my 3rd tray, but I have the indentations on my top 6 teeth along the back and build up really gets in those. So gross. Have you noticed like a weird film on your teeth in the morning? When I wake up and take my trays out to eat or brush, my teeth feel disgusting. Good luck!

Buttons

ksl2008
I got the attachments on yesterday. Wasn't too painful, just annoying. I almost prefer to have my trays on now because I hate the feeling of the buttons. It's not even the buttons themselves that bother me. Yes, they feel weird but I can deal. The things that's bothering me the most is each tooth that has an attachment, feels like there's dried superglue all over it, or like there's a ton of food caked to my tooth that wont come off. Has anyone else experienced this? My teeth without buttons feel smooth and normal, but the teeth with them are all rough and it's not just where the buttons are. The entire tooth is like covered in glue or something.

Otherwise, my teeth feel fine. Some soreness since getting the new trays but that's all. I'll post pictures later!

Thanks for sharing your update. It sounds like the buttons are hard to get used to at first.I found some opinions in the doctor Q&A that you might find helpful. Are you taking Ibuprofen for the soreness?

March 27, 2015
I'm not taking anything for the soreness. It's not to the point where I feel like I need to take anything.

My guess is there may be some residual left on your teeth surrounding the attatchments. I too have noticed some on my teeth. My ortho polished most of it off right after I got my attatchments but I do notice some stayed on! Maybe you could call your ortho and see if he can take a look, possibly he can polish more off.

Beer and Coffee.

ksl2008
I'm a week into my 2nd set of trays. Nothing to really update. I haven't noticed any significant changes in my teeth or their placement. My bite feels off when I take the trays out to eat, which is a given since my teeth are slowly moving. I'm used to the feel of the buttons now. They're still annoying but there's nothing I can do about that. Oh well.

Rule breaker: drink nothing but water with the trays in - oops. I'm guilty of drinking iced coffee through a straw once in a while. And drinking beer - more than just once in a while, with my trays on. I haven't had any serious staining of my trays or teeth. I'm always sure to have water with me when I drink iced coffee so I can swish some around after every few sips. When I'm out drinking I'll try to always have a glass of water with every drink so my teeth don't stain and BONUS! it keeps me hydrated, so I'm hardly ever hungover anymore. I make sure to brush my teeth as soon as possible after my coffee. Sometimes I'll go to the bathroom when I'm at the bar and rinse the trays out. I hate the feeling of having beer in between the trays. I'm still steering clear of dark liquor and darker drinks in general.

Picture quality isn't that great.

Glad I'm not the only one! I've had no problems with staining either.
