In the winter of 2017, few months before turning 45, I really started hating how old I looked. I had been doing Botox for a decade and had dabbled with mixed results with fillers. I hate the way everyone is starting to look like a "real housewife " these days, and yet I didn't like what I saw in the mirror. I decided to look in to surgical options as a way to "get ahead" of aging and not have to get all over-filled looking.
I got in the RealSelf and became enthralled by some of the glowing reviews I saw. I booked appointments with 2 local FPSs.
They both told me that I would get very subtle results for the downside of a mini lift. They both recommended an upper bleph, and fillers or fat transplant , one recommended a chin implant (!?) both were willing to do a lift but didn't recommend it. Both told me the fantasy of being filler-free was just that: a fantasy. Comprehensive rejuvenation combines surgery with volume replacement etc.
I clung to the wish for a lift for a while, but since my desires surgery date was many months away I started seeing one for Botox and fillers. Over a year Dr Chung has been slowly and carefully adding volume back. I had 2 trouty days after I threw caution to the wind and let her plump my lips but then when the swelling went down I was reminded of why I keep letting myself trust her!
Anyway back to the chin implant. I finally decided after many visits and chatting over fillers to trust her advice and let her do the upper bleph and chin implant. I will not lie, a chin implant is a roller coaster. You look like jay Leno for a while, then for months I thought I looked like a witch when I smiled and couldn't see my bottom teeth anymore. The office is great and reassuring and dr Chung addressed all of my concerns, with free fillers and Botox while a dimple in the chin worked its way out. My husband hated it for a while. But it really was a matter of giving it time-the swelling can last 3-6 month. It is also about realistic expectations where I thought I was going to lose the jowls and have a perfect straight jaw. Everything She has done has been about bringing balance not about instant "wow." People always complain here that no one says they look great but one way to look at that is that you have subtle improvements! I would die if people knew I had a CI. I'll try to post some privacy maintaining photos

Thank you for posting! I am too getting a chin implant for Dr. Chung next month. My worry is the healing process and my what if it looks noticable to others? Do you have any photos of you during your initial days of healing? Also was it under a local? Any advice going into it?

Hi! Yes it was under local. Procedure was very easy. I did host a party with my mother and sisters attending maybe 3 weeks or so after, and while I was a far cry from done with the swelling and everything at that point no one said anything or looked at me weird. I would have told my family but it was mixed company so I never did. My husband hated it for a while, and recently he said he never notices it any more, and agrees that I look good. The swelling is so grotesque at first it is a bit traumatic for you and your loved ones to be honest. But it takes time for the swilling to recede and your muscles to adjust, and when they do, for me at least, it feels completely natural. I can send you pics if you send me your email, belittle they don't they'll the whole picture with movement, smile, etc.

Forgive the autocorrect! I also want to be totally clear about the "worth it" rating. This does not mean "rainbows and unicorns shooting out of my chin every day" I still sometimes catch my smile and think it is weird. My path to accepting that this was worth it has included seeing the swelling (that at the time you don't realize is still swelling because the major swelling is gone) go down in conjunction with quite a large amount of filler kind of everywhere including the chin area. I have a very petite anatomy other than the nose so the larger chin for me had to be balanced by volume in my face before I looked like "me" again. I feel great now but I do wonder how long I am going to be able to keep up with the fillers and how I will feel about the chin when or if I let it all go. At that point I doubt I will regret the implant but I may not love it anymore?
