In the winter of 2017, few months before turning 45, I really started hating how old I looked. I had been doing Botox for a decade and had dabbled with mixed results with fillers. I hate the way everyone is starting to look like a "real housewife " these days, and yet I didn't like what I saw in the mirror. I decided to look in to surgical options as a way to "get ahead" of aging and not have to get all over-filled looking.
I got in the RealSelf and became enthralled by some of the glowing reviews I saw. I booked appointments with 2 local FPSs.
They both told me that I would get very subtle results for the downside of a mini lift. They both recommended an upper bleph, and fillers or fat transplant , one recommended a chin implant (!?) both were willing to do a lift but didn't recommend it. Both told me the fantasy of being filler-free was just that: a fantasy. Comprehensive rejuvenation combines surgery with volume replacement etc.
I clung to the wish for a lift for a while, but since my desires surgery date was many months away I started seeing one for Botox and fillers. Over a year Dr Chung has been slowly and carefully adding volume back. I had 2 trouty days after I threw caution to the wind and let her plump my lips but then when the swelling went down I was reminded of why I keep letting myself trust her!
Anyway back to the chin implant. I finally decided after many visits and chatting over fillers to trust her advice and let her do the upper bleph and chin implant. I will not lie, a chin implant is a roller coaster. You look like jay Leno for a while, then for months I thought I looked like a witch when I smiled and couldn't see my bottom teeth anymore. The office is great and reassuring and dr Chung addressed all of my concerns, with free fillers and Botox while a dimple in the chin worked its way out. My husband hated it for a while. But it really was a matter of giving it time-the swelling can last 3-6 month. It is also about realistic expectations where I thought I was going to lose the jowls and have a perfect straight jaw. Everything She has done has been about bringing balance not about instant "wow." People always complain here that no one says they look great but one way to look at that is that you have subtle improvements! I would die if people knew I had a CI. I'll try to post some privacy maintaining photos

You look great! What was the size and shape of the implant ? Did you have it placed trough your mouth Or under your chin?

It was medium-under chin. I can't be much help on brand but it was one of Jose silicone ones with the wings

thank you! My teen daughter is consulting now for a chin and seeing other people’s pics is very helpful. I hope her result is as good as yours!!

Thank you-you are very sweet! For a teen especially I want to emphasize the ROLLER COASTER that is the chin (probably any facial) implant. There is massive, hideous swelling. There are weird smokes when and IF you can smile. There is numbness. There is a smile that doesn't work and talking weird. The worst of it was done within a month but I didn't fully feel like it was a part of me (and a part that I liked) for maybe 4-6 months.

Also-keep in mind I have also had fillers: a bit for submental crease, pre-Jowl area, cheeks, etc...

What you described is exactly why I am so hesitant about this surgery! I don’t think the recovery is a “easy” as the Drs make it seem. The numbness, smile and speech “issues” from swelling or whatever can be very difficult to cope with during recovery!

Hello, it’s been 8 weeks since my chin implant and rhinoplasty revision and I experienced everything you mentioned. Most irritating is the speech and numb chin. My problem is my cheeks feel huge... like chipmunks... before my surgery lower face was slim and now it’s still swollen

I'm so sorry to hear that. I can tell you from my chin experience that the swelling keeps going down even when you think there must be no swelling left. And the motor skills also get better. Let me know how you do!!

Thank you for posting your before & after pics. You were able to accomplish what a lower facelift & necklift don't always succeed to do . Very impressive. Do you feel that your CI made the biggest difference in your marionette area & neck or were the fillers more beneficial? Realizing it's a combination effect probably. How much downtime did you have? bruising? You're stunning btw.

Thanks Canlynn! I definitely attribute the change in the pre-Jowl depressions to the fillers. Those actually really need a plumping right now :( The under chin was lipo'd and that made a huge difference. But I also think all of it helped my neck area. We go in to PS hoping it will solve all of our "issues," permanently, and unfortunately I have found that it is a combination approach and that any one procedure doesn't fix EVERYTHING. What she told the the CI would do, it did. I got a natural, balanced profile that is so much better than before!
