I am about one week out from my surgery. It was much more painful than I thought it would be, but I'm very pleased with the results so far.
I am looking forward to shopping or clothes to be a fun experience again.

I'm two weeks out now and feeling sooooo much better. That first week was a killer! I had convinced myself I was going to be like some of the ladies on this site that recovered quickly, but it didn't work out that way. I will post some photos since the nice people at Real Self walked me through how to do this. These photos were taken the night before surgery and at week one.
So to put these photos in context:
When I had my consult back in June I weighed about 122-124. I tried to put on 10 lbs as my doctor advised by the day of my surgery and I made it to about 131. When I got home from surgery I weighed 145!! So this photo is me at about 140 lbs. I'll post again in a few weeks when my weight stabalizes. Today I'm 15 days out and 135 lbs
I am much older than most of the ladies on this site- I'm in my mid 50s. I worried a lot about what to tell my kids, especially my daughter. On the one hand I didn't want her to think that I think looks are so important but on the other hand I wanted to model a 'if you don't like something - change it" mentality and I did not like my behind for years. Not being able to wear clothes and especially pants because my behind was so flat and having to have everything taken in was just a bummer.(no pun intended!) I'm not sure how to handle things with my sons. What do others think about this?

You look great. At the end of the day you did what makes you happy. If you are happy the people around you can be happy. It's a hard thing for other to understand if they are satisfied with themselves. Your kids should just want to see you happy. You have obviously been a good mom to them seeing how you take them into consideration and you deserve something that makes you feel giood about YOU! I wish you all the luck in your recovery, happy healing. p.s HAVE FUN SHOPPING !

I love your attitude! Of course I only want my kids to be happy so I should ask the same from them. Thanks for the new perspective. I'm always learning thanks to angels like you.

:) Not a problem at all. Don't forget to let us know how it goes when you tell them!

Congrats on your surgery. I think I would only tell if I were asked. Then I would have a story for people not close to you because it is not really their business. I would give a generic response....I have been working on my body. To much detail will encourage questions and you may find yourself defending your decision which is not up for debate. Own your butt, you did it for you, be happy ;). I am sure they will be happy for you no matter what.

Yea, I like that response.. "I've been working on my body." It's nobody else's business, really! I a bit conflicted about the issue, too... because I was taught to accept and love myself just as I am, and I know so many people who are straight up against plastic surgery. But I think that as long as it's not a make it or break it thing - like, as long as you really do love yourself for who you are on the inside then when it comes down to things like altering your physical appearance, then its not even such a big deal as they all make it out to be. Ahem... to quote sheryl crow, "If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad." So don't let what other people think about it get you down. that's my motto.
