In 2012, I decided to proceed with a rhinoplasty...

In 2012, I decided to proceed with a rhinoplasty after having spent countless hours researching the procedure and many more reviewing the work of those who perform it from around Australia. I booked a consultation with Dr Nettle because not only does he possess a stellar reputation in the field of rhinoplasty, I was also extremely impressed by his ability to correct botched rhinoplasties performed by his other less experienced and talented peers (though, please note, I was not seeking a revision rhinoplasty).

I travelled to Sydney from Adelaide to meet with Dr Nettle and felt immediately that this was a man I could trust and who had my best interests as his number one priority. He listened intently to my concerns regarding my facial appearance and we discussed some strategies as to how I could achieve greater facial harmony through surgery. This prompted my decision to proceed with cheek implants and Buccal fat pad removal as well and I would like to make clear that I was not up-sold these additional procedures. I had contemplated them before my consultation with Dr Nettle and trusted him enough to perform all three in the one surgical operation.

My main concern with my nose was a bump on the bridge, a tip that was too round and bulbous, and nostrils that I felt needed to be repositioned closer together. Dr Nettle remedied these concerns through surgery and I cannot speak highly enough of his skill as a surgeon in addition to his natural, artistic vision in knowing precisely what a patient requires in order to look their very best. He is aesthetically conservative by nature which is a good thing and two years post-surgery, I still have 'my' nose but it is now the very best version of my nose and is compatible with the rest of my facial features. (Please note that I will endeavour to post my before and after photos as soon as I can but right now I am without computer and this website will not allow me to upload photos from a tablet - my apologies.)

The hardest thing about my rhinoplasty procedure was the healing period that followed and having the patience to wait for the swelling to subside and my nose to settle into its new shape. Scrutinising my nose day in, day out from the moment my splint was removed probably did my head in at times and there were periods where I felt as though it would never reach its final result and this is when I would become despondent, but only temporarily. (I've learned that plastic surgery is as much an emotional journey as it is a physical one.) At each follow-up consultation, Dr Nettle reassured me that what was happening with my nose was completely normal - the increase and decrease in nostril size, variation with the tip etc.... I am now happy to report that I have perfectly symmetrical nostrils. No question was too silly or insignificant for me to ask during my post-operative follow-ups and I appreciate the care, concern, and guidance I received from Dr Nettle and the excellent members of his staff.

It was great to sit down with Dr Nettle at my last follow-up and review my before and (final) after photos which proved to me that a significant change in my nose had taken place. When you are looking at your nose constantly, it is much harder to recognise these changes yourself. (Note to prospective patients from someone whose been there: TAKE A BREAK FROM THE MIRROR! Let the body do what it needs to do to heal and just get on with your life.)

My final thoughts on Dr Nettle:

A caring, highly trained, highly skilled facial plastic surgeon who is a pleasure to deal with and a true professional. I trust his surgical ability and aesthetic judgement implicitly and have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone who has considered improving their facial appearance and who is psychologically balanced and in possession of realistic expectations about their facial transformation. Put your faith in him - I did. He has exceeded my expectations and I can't thank him enough.
