My dental story: I've had braces before but I...
$5,400
My dental story:
I've had braces before but I had to have them taken out after 10 months because I needed gum surgery, when I was 15. My bottom teeth never got straightened out and my top were perfectly straight but I stopped wearing the retainers so my teeth shifted.
Phase 1:
After my consultation and I decided to go ahead and go through with Invisalign. On the same day I had my teeth cleaned which took a few hours since it had been 8 years since I had gone to the dentist. I also had my teeth 3D scanned.
Teeth or Tooth Removal:
My Dentist gave me three options because my teeth are crowded. 1.Remove all 4 wisdom teeth. 2.Remove two top and two bottom teeth (keeping the wisdom teeth). 3.Remove 1 front tooth on the bottom (which is circled in red in the picture). Of all the options I went with #3 because it was the least invasive. Option 2 was an absolute no bc the teeth, that he wanted to Remove are perfectly healthy. And I didn't go with option 1 bc he said my treatment will take longer, having to move all my teeth to the back. Plus my wisdom teeth aren't bothering me at all and I can always go back at a later time to have them removed if it came to that.
Cost:
The cost was $5400 but my insurance covered $2000 of it. My Dentist offered a groupon which took off $1500 but you have to pay $300 to use it. The total after all that was $2200 and I had to pay for the cost same day as my consultation. (Since I decided same day).
Estimated Game Plan:
The Dentist told me that my estimated treatment is going to be anywhere from 5-9 months, and that is with changing my trays weekly. The trays are going to range anywhere from 20-36 trays, give or take.
Confirmed Game plan:
My doctor told me that when I get my tooth removed, I will be sedated, and while I'm under sedation he's going to removed my gum tag, and fix 2 of my teeth that have mild decay. He will also place the 1st Invisalign tray on my teeth so I can just leave after. I have an appointment next week to go over phase 2.
Orthodontist or General Dentist:
I chose my dentist bc he's had almost 2 decades of Invisalign experience and I did my research before hand. Generally you'd want to go to an orthodontist to have your teeth straightened but my dentist has a ton of Invisalign patients and he was extremely knowledgeable. He is also the only elite Invisalign provider in Idaho. In case you didn't know Elite is just a fancy term for dealing with a minimum of 300 cases yearly, then there's premier provider and they deal with at least 50 cases yearly, and last is the Preferred provider and they do at least 10 cases a year. Just because someone is elite doesn't mean that they do a good job, so I highly recommend anyone choosing a Dentist or orthodontist to do research on your doctor ahead of time so you don't get short handed.
Phase 2:
Phase 2 won't happen for another 4 weeks at least, which will be the sedation, tooth removal, and receiving my first tray. I have phase 2 consultation next week, so if anything changes, I'll give an update.

Phase 2 and when I'm getting Invisalign.
Today 4/26/17 I went in for the sedation consultation for my tooth removal.
On 5/22/17 I will be having my tooth removed and while I'm under I will have my teeth scaled and after that is done, my dentist will place the Invisalign tray in my mouth.
My next update will probably be 5/23 or 5/24. Until then. ????

3-4 weeks til Invisalign
So I had an appt today and discovered that I won't be getting Invisalign next week like I had anticipated. I will still have my tooth removed on Monday.
When I went in to my appt my doctor was concerned about my overbite, and had given me the option to have 2 teeth on the top removed to close the overbite, but it would leave me with gaps between my teeth. I didn't think it was worth it to have a gap between two teeth so I went ahead and not go through with having my teeth removed.
My dentist said that we'll go ahead and start straightening the top teeth, and if midway through I change my mind then we'll deal with it then.
