I had my surgery almost four weeks ago. Went from a 38G to at 38C. All was going well until sutures came out, then everything, litteraly began falling apart. My body is rejecting the internal plastic staples, so nothing wants to heal. My surgeon will not see me, he keeps a 3 and 6 week post op schedule. So I went to my primary care doctor and demanded to be sent to the local wound care hospital/clinic. They are so caring and put me on a wound vac and silver pads. My husband has been very supportive, and upbeat. I would be a mess without him. I am so tired, and am trying to stay positive. At least at the wound care center I am seen three times a week and have a doctor and team who insist I get enough protein and rest. They took blood and cultures on the first visit, got the wound vac authorized and are sending reports to my plastic surgeon who has not even called to see if he could help. He is the only one in the area that takes my crummy private insurance. I could not get anyone else to see me, so I had no choice. I will say that he took 7 pounds of tissue off, around 3100 grams all totaled. I have had to be on antibiotics, and debrided twice. I am not a smoker, dont have diabetes, and generaly heal very well. I hope the wound vac can close the one breast, and the silver pads can close the other one. Once I am healed, I am sure that things will look more positive!

I hope you feel better soon! That sounds terrible. I hope you'll write a review of your plastic surgeon so that future patients will know what to expect. I know if I read your review I would NOT choose that doctor! Best wishes for a smoother healing process in the next few weeks....

I am wondering if anyone else is having the same problem with plastic staples. I seem to be spitting rather than my body absorbing them. That is why I am having a hard time healing according to the doctors at the wound care center. I had seven removed and they said more are coming to the surface. So, patience is the name of the game. I am having everything notated by the wound care center and will report my findings to my insurance company. They may take my doctor off the list of providers, which means that no one in the area will be able to go to him from my insurance. Not only did the insurance have to pay for the surgery, they will have to pay for all the wound care visits, three times a week and a wound vac machine. All in all it will cost them what a good plastic surgeon in the area would have charged. Stepping over quarters to pick up pennies, typical insurance company. Funny, I called a few good surgeons in the area, and they would not touch me even as a cash patient when I told them who my insurer was. I guess if I had trouble afterwards they could have tried to sue the surgeon for repayment of what they paid out due to an off the books surgery. Weird... anyhoo, I hope this does not put anyone off the surgery, just make sure you are in good hands and ask what their follow up policy is if there are issues. Any doctor who wont see you when you think you are in trouble is a doctor to avoid. I hurt some today even though it is a full month since surgery. I am sure it is because of the debridement and poping those staples out. Some of them were just sitting under my skin and had to be guided to an opening for removal. The wound vac is not painful per se, just more of a constant pressure. I am happy to have it as according to studies keeps infection out and speeds the healing process. I would be happy to speak to anyone directly about the surgeon who performed my operation. If someone is planning plastic surgery in the Boise, Idaho area, contact me here and I will tell you privately.

So glad that I went to the wound care clinic! Under a debridement, there was a tunnel wound that would have caused a huge issue if not found. They are packing it and putting the vac over it. I wondered why I felt so crappy! Anyhoo, no fever or infection, just more holes. The other one is just about healed. It should be about one month until the wound vac comes off. It is a Godsend, no constant wet to dry packing, just go visit the clinic 3 times a week and they pack and dress it. I dont have to constantly look at it and fret. The only yucky part is watching the tube drain the gunk out of my wound. I should just stop obsessing on how much is going into the drainage collection cannister. I am almost five weeks post reduction and still have a month to go at least. Everybody heals at a different rate!

March 25,

It has been almost six weeks. My tunnel wound got worse, and I have a secondary infection. The tunnel is almost 2 cm deep and full of yuck. I had not been feeling great over the weekend and sure enough this was the reason. I am having a ct scan to see if there is anything left in there, or if there is a hidden pocket of infection. The wound clinic did a culture and put me on antibiotics a broad spectum one, until the culture comes back. This is scary and downright disheartening. I thought as of Friday I had this licked and the wound vac would be off before next weekend. Wrong.... I pray things go a little better this week. Hope everyone is healing well and feeling good!
