Like so many here, a long history of bad teeth, bad dentist and bad luck. A 52 i find myself with the choice between dentures and implants.
Where i live they are not many options. I will be going to Bogota to the office of Dr Uribe. If any off you have been there, i would love to hear from you.
The plan is upper and lower jaw all on 4 . With porselein finals .
It going to be 2 time a 10 days visit to Bogota, one first week of febuary, one first week of june. About 20 teeth with bad filling , and bridges that are half loose have to come out. The first day is surgery, then 2 days recuperating without teeth , then the temporary ones place in . waiting a other 5 day to see if everything goes well.
Then return in june for the final ones.
Spending twice 10 days in a city where i don’t know any one and don’t really have a fluent Spanish is going to be hard. Also i have food allergies that means i will need to eat soft food i can find, and his gluten free.

I spoke with dr Uribe and will be going to Cali end of January. I will stay there 10 days as I want to give myself every chance to recover properly. I am going alone , working a bit on my Spanish and don’t know yet if I will hire some one to help me. I had a telephonic consultation and there is a English speaking organizer, Cristina, that very helpful.

Hi Isabella, I'm sitting here with broken decayed bottom front four teeth (this happened 3/17) & upper 'temps' a dentist did for me because of my very small bite I could not tolerate 4 front teeth on a 'flipper' which covered the top of my mouth and I found it extremely difficult to speak-forget about eating; however he pulled all my other teeth on the upper arch so I'm sure I will need bone grafting. Do you mind if I ask about Bogota;how you knew about this dentist and why you trust him? I've heard so many-but not all-persons having horrible experiences with going out of the country; but your name and some ability to speak Spanish make me wonder if you know people from the area? I've come unfortunately to the conclusion that there will be no way I could get the finances for implants in the U.S.A. therefore due to that and facing several orthopedic surgeries I may have to try out of here when I can even procure the 'low' am't. you are spending. I literally know absolutely NO Spanish-a touch of French from a million years ago!! Won't go into my sad story of why my dental situation became so severe. However perhaps you could tell me what you know about where you are headed-the dentist, etc. I realize you won't be going until January but if you don't write again I certainly hope all works well for you. Thanks if you give me or others some input!

I do speak some spanish and can hold a basic conversation, but not medical spanish. We did a background sheck on the dentist, looking at his degrees and if university knew him. We also had someone make sure his office is real. My husband plan on doing one last look into any malpractice complaints. I don’t believe doctor to be better in the states then colombia, and the level of care is more personal, certainly in private office. I spoke to the dentist and the coordinator Cristina. I have no way to be sure someone excel at his job if it is outside my field of expertise , so i trust and hope all goes well.

In 10 days, I will fly to Cali for the implants. I am going to Cali because that’s where DR Uribe live, he work in Bogota too, but having him in the same city is reassuring.
I am eating a lot and the crunchier the better. There will be not ribs, nor chips in my near future, better to pig out now that I can. I really home the doc is generous with painkillers, doing this solo is pretty scary and being out of it for the first 3/4 days doesn’t sound bad. Only thing ,I have absolutely no idea what to take with me..... I dress pretty formal in skirts and blouses, need pyjama. And the most bizarre one, if you are asleep for up to 6 hours, do you wear depends or something like it? What should I bring ?

Hi Isabella 100(writing 100 to make sure this gets to you!). Well, you're getting close to your date of surgery-I imagine you are nervous and excited! Try not to worry too much about your diet-believe it or not; for over 3 years since I had all 'temporary' caps on top bonded together they are made of inexpensive acrylic and can break easily; I've been so scared they would break off I eat NOTHING except yogurt(lots of protein) and ice cream. No normal food. I am now used to it. At any rate I just wanted to wish you the best of luck & want you to know that well I might be a total stranger; I will be thinking of you and sending prayers your way. None of us on this site are really strangers-we all share one common denominator-rotten teeth!! No matter how it happened we all find ourselves in the same situation. Preferring not to have dentures-can't live with what's going on with our teeth and needing implants we can afford and hope & pray they will look beautiful and there will be no problems. If I were you I wouldn't worry about your clothes; wear casual and comfortable. Jeans; nice t-shirts or blouses-shorts or skirts will be fine. Of course in 10 days you'll need something for sleep-again whatever you wear home unless you're in Alaska will be fine. Depends?? Is that normally a problem for you or are you worried about after anesthesia? The anesthesia won't knock you out for days so unless this is normal for you I wouldn't worry. Keep posting your progress!

I I’ll keep up how things go. Looking at my clothes, I don’t have jeans, pants or anything like that. I will get some in Cali. I am also going to hire a nurse for 4 days . A extra complication for me is I have major food allergies, I need to find some food .

Hi Isabella, let me know how you do & if I can be of any help. I’m not sure why you’re going to Colombia but I’m concerned. I hope it goes well for you! Please be careful. Prayers your experience is better than mine for leaving the country. If it’s humid, bring cotton clothes. I lived in shorts in Cancun but that was summer. Overall, you want to be comfortable afterwards, you’ll not care to much how you look. Comfort will be your biggest concern. Bring a sweater in case the office is really cold. Because of the humidity, my office was freezing. Good luck sweetie!!!!

I don’t live in the states, where I live there is no implants possible. I am not real worried about Colombia. More about doing this, New York or Cali doesn’t matter. More the going alone ,doing a pretty major medical thing alone and without support. I don’t have shorts or any clothes like that. I will buy something there, and maybe a small fleece blanket.

The hotels should have soup , eggs &Jello will be your best friend. Having this surgery in Las Vegas after having it in Cancun is like night & day. If you like, read my reviews. I don’t like that they fit you for teeth a few days after surgery because you’ll be swollen & have to live with loose teeth for 6 month, depending on what they’re giving you. Dr. Golpa gave me permanent teeth right after surgery. I went alone also. If you’re in a hotel, you should be good. Just ask to be close to the ice machine. If you normally wear dresses, you should be fine. Just comfortable clothes, even lounging clothing on surgery day. I hope they have all your transportation arranged before, you’ll need a ride home after surgery and having someone who can escort you to your room. That’s really the only time you should need help unless there’s complications. I took care of myself both times. I was in Cancun a miserable 13 days. So unnecessary but maybe because of their lack of skills that Dr. Golpa has, I guess. :)

Pjss - not to hijack Isabella 100's thread, but what is the difference between fitting teeth a few days after surgery vs. getting permanent teeth right after surgery? Wasn't your mouth swollen right after surgery and in the days that follow? I have read your entire story. I am in the research/planning phase - I need full upper/lower arches. I am just trying to get all the info I can to make the right decision. This is very scary for me and everyone who does this. Thank you.
