Just had it done! I had a lip lift 4 months ago, and I was not satisfied. To be fair, I started with a very thin upper lip. I did this under local anesthetic, and it was more stressful and painful than I would have liked.
The lips was done to my belly. I received several syringes of anesthesia to my abdomen to prepare, but once underway, it hurt whenever the device reached the edge of where the anesthesia was working. That pain was not too bad, but it put me on edge for the rest of the time. I should mention that I did get a mild sedative at the beginning and I was listening to music for 'deep sleep' on my earphones. The music helped the most.
When it came time to place the fat into my lips, that anesthesia was the most painful-the same as a dental block but times four. I could feel the procedure and the fat going in (it felt cold), but for the most part there was no pain except for on the lower left side. The procedure took about an hour from start to finish.
Afterward, I was covered with a blanket and left to rest for more than an hour. The sedative and music got me to sleep, which is probably the best thing to do after something stressful to the body. I was given some antibiotics to take home, and I will see the doctor tomorrow to check in. I know it will take at least 10 days for the swelling to go down enough for me to feel comfortable going out into public. So far, I am okay with that.

Still swollen and a little sore. Definitely less swollen than yesterday.

Definitely looks like it's going down. :) How are you feeling?

Thanks, Matt. This is day 6. The lips are quite uneven, and I'm a tad worried about that, but everything I've read about fat transfers indicates that it can take weeks to months before getting to the final result. I have not left the apartment, but I'm okay with that, surprisingly! I've got two kids and an online degree that keep me busy, plus it's a chance to develop some healthy habits at home, such as cooking all my meals, and establishing an exercise routine here rather than at the gym.

That's great that you can make the best of your time at home! Yeah, definitely sit tight before deciding you're unhappy with your results. It could be a while before you see the final outcome.

Worried.

I have read countless times that asymmetry and swelling is normal in the first few weeks, but now I am getting worried. All I can do is wait and hope I don't run into anyone I know for a while. There is heaviness and swelling in my right philtrum and upper lip, and heaviness and swelling in my smile line on the left side. My smile looks too wide and asymmetrical. Plus, my jowls are swollen. I don't like this at 10 days post op!

I had my upper lip done about 15 yrs ago - it took about a month, I think, for the swelling to settle. You are still early. Thanks for sharing your experience as I would like to do more in the future.

Thanks for the comment, Amy! I do welcome reassurances. I went out in public for the first time today, and I still felt like it was really obvious I'd had something 'done'. How is your upper lip after 15 years?

My upper lip is still great. If I gain much weight, my lip gets a little bigger - but never looks bad. The reason I was unhappy with the upper lip is that the bottom of it - the part that makes contact with the lower lip - had a weird 'm' shape with a bit of hang-down in the center. The fat evened it out and I no longer see that old shape. I'm 58 so could now probably use a lip lift. :) But my biggest problme now is turkey neck and terribly saggy face. So will get a lower FL.

Thank you for sharing. Please keep us updated. I would like to see how much fat will remain since these two areas fat seems to disappear quickly. Xxxxx
