WORTH IT
Hey reader - I'm you, just two months ahead. If you have no time for a review, simply trust me on Dr. Murat: Book him now. It doesn't get better than this.
Why? Lemme' tell you:
Over the past two years, I lost 77 kg - that's 170 lbs for the metrically challenged - through some old-fashioned therapy and some effective bariatric surgery.
I was happy as a clam; unfortunately just left with enough surplus skin to keep a burn ward supplied through fire season (not quite, but you catch my drift).
Post-bariatric surgery can be tricky. I've seen some less-than-stellar results from other places. So for me, going to Turkey wasn't really about the cost. I wanted someone who does this every day, not once in a blue moon. Someone who knows exactly how to reconstruct a body to its best.
I consider myself a picky consumer. I did my research by reading here, googling names, checking scientific work, professional certifications. Because hey, let's face it - aesthetic surgery is not an easy world to navigate. Especially not if you are going abroad like I was.
I settled on Dr. Murat as my first choice for his results, reviews, certifications, and for his scientific work. Apprehensive and excited, I filled out the form and thought I might hear back later that week or something. Oh no, that's not how this business is run. It's ... seriously impressive:
Within an hour (we're talking 9.30pm Turkey time), I was contacted by my patient coordinator, Ozan.
Ozan was with me from the first correspondence to checking in on me week 2 after coming home. I can't praise Ozan's work, professionalism, and attitude enough. He was there with me in the hospital, he replied to my texts at any hour, and he made the entire experience seamless and easy.
Within 24 hours of reaching out through Real Self I had exchanged pictures, had gotten a quote, and notably - I had gotten the right suggestion for what I needed to have done. Not once was I "sold" to; in fact, Dr. Murat suggested exactly the procedure a local surgeon had suggested to me as well.
Dr. Murat himself is nothing short of the Aesthetic Wizard of Istanbul. What do you want in a surgeon? You want someone who's highly skilled, someone with the right experience, someone who'll spend the extra time in the OR to make every detail perfect.
Indeed, you want someone who works like his professional reputation is on the line when he treats a patient. That's this guy, ladies and gentlemen. Witnessed by the fact he did the 'Yes!' clenched fist pump to himself upon seeing me for the final check-up, simply because he was so happy with how I was healing up (I don't think he knows I noticed this ... :-)).
Seriously, when was the last time a doctor was genuinely happy for you; proud of his work? Color me impressed.
Besides that, he's the kindest doctor you'll ever go to. I'm mentioning this last, because I think we all look for the skills first and foremost, right? I'd come back for round 2 next year, even if he wasn't such a great guy in person. His work is *that* good. He just happens to be really awesome in person, too. That's how you create a great atmosphere for the patient in general. You feel safe.
... this is getting long, I know. It's wrap-up time:
If you're like me, wondering if Turkey is an option for you as your surgery destination, and you feel it's hard to navigate a country far away - I come from Scandinavia, for example - go to Dr. Murat.
You'll get the best surgeon there is, the hospital is new, clean, and you're in a private suite. The hotel I spent the final days getting ready to travel back was top-notch (again, I'm a picky consumer and I've traveled a lot. This was good.) The entire staff around you will be far better and more service-minded than anything you'll encounter at home, wherever home may be for you.
I guarantee it. Dr. Murat (and his team) is the real deal.
*Pictures are day before surgery - 10 days post-op, still swollen as expected and with marks from the compression suit - but I think the result still speaks for itself :)*
