Loose Skin After Weight Loss? Dr. V is Your Surgeon!

Dr. Vasilakis is a fantastic plastic surgeon who I would recommend to anyone looking to get skin removal or liposuction of any kind! Below is a detailed review of my experience with Dr. Vasilakis at Memorial Plastic Surgery.

After losing 115lbs, I realized that I had a lot of excess skin that I wanted to get removed. I ended up having a series of 2 surgeries about 3.5 months apart that included a circumferential body lift, brachioplasty (arm lift), breast lift + fat grafting, and liposuction + J Plasma to various areas. During my initial search, I made consultations with 4 surgeons, and Dr. Vasilakis was actually my final consultation. He and his wonderful patient care coordinator, Shelby, along with the great staff at Memorial Plastic Surgery made my consultation experience top notch, and I instantly felt comfortable there.

The main reasons I chose to go with Dr. Vasilakis were:

1) His bedside manner was amazing - I had about a billion questions for him, and he never tried to rush me, blow off my questions, or give me half answers like some other surgeons did. I like to know the why and how behind things, so I appreciated all of Dr. Vasilakis’ thorough explanations. I also had some specific ideas of what I did/did not want (for example, I knew I didn’t want a BBL or implants), and he never tried to pressure me into doing anything I didn’t feel comfortable with.

2) His body of work spoke for itself (no pun intended lol) - Looking through his Instagram and RealSelf, I found many of his previous patients who had similar work done to what I was wanting, and it looked very well-done. Scar placement on tummy tucks/body lifts was low, symmetrical, and a pretty shape; belly buttons looked natural; body contouring was proportional and not too exaggerated; arm lift scars were straight and not placed directly down the center of the inner arm, (this was a big one for me!); breast work looked natural and symmetrical. Additionally, he had specifically worked with a lot of weight loss patients (rather than just mommy makeovers), which was very important to me.

3) He was up front about treatment options and personalized a plan that we were both happy with - If there was a procedure he didn’t think would be beneficial or worth the scar/money, he would be honest about it rather than try to upsell me (unlike some other surgeons I talked to). By the end of the consultation, he had spent a good amount of time developing a plan of action for me that was thorough and complete. The pricing was also competitive (not cheap by any means lol but reasonable for the amount of work to be done!). Since I had to get two surgeries, they also worked with me to ensure fair pricing for the second one.

4) His post-op care is fantastic - Since I chose to stay overnight both times, he checked in on me the next morning post-surgery before I left the facility. He also pretty much had me come back in and see him once a week for the first month, and then every few weeks thereafter (depending on your individual needs of course). He also gives his patients his cell phone number and always says to text him if I have any questions. This put me at ease knowing that I wouldn’t be left to fend for myself during recovery should any issues arise. Other surgeons I spoke to wouldn’t see their patients personally again until much later or might only have a couple follow up appointments included. (As a heads up, he typically requires at least 10 post-op lymphatic massages, which can get pretty pricey, but are definitely worth it!)

5) All surgical facilities were accredited, clean, and well-maintained - They also had an overnight wing onsite that you could opt to stay in after surgery for an additional fee. The overnight suite, OR, and regular office + waiting room are all in the same building on the same floor, which made everything very convenient. Ample free parking is available in the attached garage as well.

I am now about 6 weeks post-op of my second (and final) surgery, and I genuinely couldn’t be happier. I was fortunate to not have many complications, and any that I did have were very minor/common and got resolved or are in the process of doing so. Even though I’m not fully healed yet, I’m amazed that this is the same body I had 6 months ago. There are so many high quality surgeons to choose from in Houston, and I did have a bit of choice paralysis, but at the end of the day, I can’t imagine having chosen anyone other than Dr. Vasilakis. I wouldn’t change anything about my experience (except maybe having the consultation with him first to avoid paying the other surgeons’ consultation fees lol). 11/10 experience!
