I recently (5 days ago) was in an accident where my car was rear-ended and totaled by a hummer. My head hit the dashboard and left a 3 inch laceration across my forehead that was deep enough to tear muscle. I have never had stitches, let alone a laceration of this magnitude. In addition my entire face was swollen and my left eye was still swollen shut five days later.

Dr. Farber asked me what happened and then after seeing the wound, decided to remove the stitches. He didn't really let me know, however, until he started doing it. The area was very painful and the manipulation happened without me being under any type of sedation or even analgesics. I was told that it would hurt a little. It's one day later and my head is still on fire. I was also told that I should not need any pain medication (even though I only asked for one dose following the procedure and not for anything too strong), because I shouldn't be feeling pain. I was asking questions about the long-term strategy of care after he removed the stitches and I was left feeling dumb and as if I was bothering him for asking. THIS IS MY FACE! I know that he sees this all the time, but it's my first time and I had questions. Ultimately, I had to ask him if I was bothering him with the questions. I was agitated and in tears and I left his office, to which he condescendingly replied, "Have a nice day." Seriously? I have been crying all night, which obviously doesn't help the swelling.
