I'm a 65 year old male who is slowly losing my hair consistent with male pattern baldness. I started losing my hair about 6 years ago but my natural hair was so thick that the thinning is just beginning to show. I decided to do the hair transplant now because I didn't want my hair to get any thinner and transplanted about 2000 follicles. It is too soon to comment on the effectiveness of the procedure.

Thus far I've experienced one significant adverse surprise. While it is not unusual for some of the more fragile hair follicles, to fall out during the procedure, my hair loss was very significant. In fact, I believe that I lost more hair during the procedure than I had transplanted so that I will wind up with less hair after the transplant than before even if it is completely successful.

If I had known how significant the hair loss might be, I would have waited another couple of years before undertaking the procedure. I believe my case is unusual.

I had the procedure done with the Charles Medical Group in Boca Raton. I would give them high marks for courtesy and professionalism. No hair has grown in yet, nor was I expecting this at such an early stage.

The doctor and his office staff were extremely gracious. However, I'm a type 1 diabetic and one of the ingredients in their normal anesthetic tends to trigger blood sugar rises. I only understood this part way into the process when my blood sugars skyrocketed. I discussed this with the staff and they switched to a different anesthetic. No harm, no foul :-).
