23 Year Old Nervous About Chin Implant - Bloomington, IL
ORIGINAL POST
I've always been incredibly self conscious about...
$5,800
I've always been incredibly self conscious about my weak chin and was so happy when I found out about this procedure. My surgeon is great and is taking so much time to ensure I'm getting exactly what I want. Still, as the surgery date draws nearer, I can't help but be nervous. I'm having a hard time visualizing how different I'll look and who I should tell (my grandma, my aunts?) I took the week off work and told my coworkers I'm having a minor jaw surgery to help with alignment. Let me know if that sounds ridiculous - I'm hoping they won't ask too many questions! Unfortunately, there is still a stigma around plastic surgery so I feel like I can't be 100% honest.
I will post before and after photos when the surgery is over. As a side note, I also have an overbite that I'm getting Invisalign for.

I did the Invisalign first ($10,000!) and then had a chin implant (and other facial work to lift brows and eyelids, enhance cheeks and reduce fat in neck -- I look "the same" in that no one actually notices the changes, I just hear compliments about how great I look all the time. So you see, the great news is you still look like YOU, but a new and enhanced you! Go for it -- I don't regret the more than $25,000 out of pocket costs. I received SUPERB CARE, my smile is more attractive, and I feel so much better about myself. (Those who DO know about what I did tell me that I did absolutely the right thing, EVEN those who worried about me and told me "you look beautiful as you are." They can see the difference and now understand why I did it. good luck! You're doing the right thing!!
Thank you for your response. I was a bit nervous about getting the chin implant first and THEN invisalign, but I was assured by my orthodontist that it would be okay, so I'm taking his word for it! One of my main concerns in this process looking completely different... even though I'm unhappy with one aspect of my fact I still want to look like ME. "Enhanced" is a good word that I keep telling myself too. Although I'm nervous, I think I'm just about as confident as could be at this point that it's the right decision and that I'm going to be happy with it.
Anyway, I'm so happy everything worked out well for you. Being confident and happy with yourself is truly priceless, in my opinion.
BTW -- I had the invisalign in my 50s (probably saved my teeth as EVERYONE'S teeth move forward as aging continues, and the chin implant in my mid-60s. It's never too late!!
Did you end up liking the results? I'd love to hear your post-op opinion! Thanks.

Thanks for starting your story on RealSelf! I think saying that you're working on alignment issues sounds completely legit. (Plus, you ARE working on alignment issues). Do you know what size implant you are getting?
Best of luck to you through this process. Please keep us posted!
