I am 2 months post op and I couldn't be happier! I was a low BMI patient and worried about having the surgery, but also knew that I was just going to continue putting on weight and would be in a situation where I HAD to have the surgery in a few years. I also need to be on my feet working with large animals as a vet student, and had to lose the weight or else I risked hurting myself, so I decided it would be healthier for me in the long run. Amazingly I am already down 25 pounds and feel wonderful!

The sleeve has changed my life, for one simple reason: For the first time, losing weight has not made me unhappy. Before when I would diet, I would be completely miserable. Now, I am actually enjoying it. This surgery has helped me to gain balance in my life. During previous diets if I wanted to lose weight, I couldn't go out to restaurants, couldn't eat foods I liked, basically it was torture. Now, I can go out and have a wonderful time, a few bites and I'm done. I don't crave the same foods that I used to, plus if I want to have a treat every once in a while I can.

As a low BMI patient, I think my experience may be slightly different than others. The sleeve itself isn't really what is making me lose the weight, it just prevents me from "falling off the horse". I honestly think that if I wasn't using willpower, I wouldn't have lost very much thus far. From the very beginning, I have had to choose to eat healthier and exercise, the difference that I have found so far is that on a day(s) when I don't make good choices I'm not completely set back in the weight I've lost and those days are much less frequent than they used to be.

My surgery was also much less diffcult than I anticipated and the transition has been extremely easy. I was up and going to a movie 2 days after my surgery! The first two days were tough from the gas build up in my body, but I was determined to walk it off which is exactly what I did. I have not had any pain when eating, no reflux, no vomiting, no dehydration, basically not one issue since the surgery. My doctor (Dr. Pleatman) was great, he was an extremely skilled surgeon and I credit him with the fact that the transition has been so easy.
