Hi everyone! Im so happy to have found this site! Theres alot of great information here in I appreciate all of you for sharing your stories. I have been all over this site and have learned alot from your personal experiences. The comments/suggestions and education by actual PS is wonderful!
I had my first and only BA in 2009 along w a TT. I chose my PS because a friend of mine had used him and they loved thier results.
I healed well n really had no problems until about two months ago. I started having dull aches in my pectoral muscles. This got bad enough that I couldnt ignore it. Then I would get random pain on the sides if my breasts-more on the left. I wore a bra to bed a few nights-I REALLY dont like bras-especially the tight, restricting, major supportive kind. I wore my sports bra during the day for a few days n took ibuprophen regularly.
This forced me to really look at my breasts. I now realize that they have fallen quite low and have migrated to the sides of my chest. PANIC!!! What do I do now! I researched, n researched, n reasearched some more! I found this site n I had no idea how many BA's need revision. IDK if that would have mattered to me at the time I got my implants or not. Probably not :(
I finally came to the conclusion that this was not going to go away. I was so miserable wearing a bra 24/7. My pain eased up but now my mind was consummed by "what to do". Should I explant n be done w it? Have them replaced with smaller implants or what?? Will those sag too? Will I get contacture? Infection? Etc.!!!
I had friends that have used several different PS in the area. Several were for breast reductions and not BA revisions. I did not want to go back to my original PS because I did feel a bit pressured into the 630cc size that I have. When I used the sizers, I picked the 400-450cc. He told me that w my more barrel chest 38-40 bw. I had to go bigger or I shouldnt bother getting implants. This made sense to me, so he suggested the 700cc and together we compromised on the 600cc target range. I went from a 38B to a 38DD. They were GREAT! But now they are heavy n low n I feel like I have to carry them around if Im not wearing a bra. :(
Deciding what to do has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. I made an appt with one surgeon-heard hes a good surgeon with a not so great bedside manner, changed my mind, tried my friends surgeon-he doesnt do breasts anymore specializes in surgeries above the neck now.
Then I found Dr. Honeycutt in Bismark!! I had a consult w her, she actally listened to me! She didnt think I was out of the ballpark suggesting going down to 400-450cc implants. We discussed expant also but Im just not ready for that yet. She relieved my fears of silicon implants, MRI's every 2-3yrs are not required anymore. In 10 yrs she suggested getting them ulrasounded-unless I have problems of course. She will do a capsularraphy to fix the pockets from the larger implants and replace them with 410-440cc Sientras. She explained the "hammer effect" that Saline implants can have, especially over the 600cc size. This all made sense to me. Of course, the natural aging process doesnt stop on ur breasts because you have implants-regardless of the size of the implant-which I never thought of before. I seriously thought that my breasts with implants would be "frozen in time", or something like that! LOL!!
I have really learned ALOT from RealSelf.
I wont be getting a lift-YAY!!! I was really afraid of that procedure but I must admit once they are fully healed they arent nearly as bad as I thought they would be. Now that the tough decisions are behind me and Ive found a PS that I have utmost confidence in-Im not in a state of panic about this anymore. :)
I will post pictures soon.
Thanks for listening ladies n thanks again for all this great information!!

Hi, it was GREAT to see your post as we are the same age! I am soooo envious of your perky nips... I just got my saline's redone (sometimes kinda bummed I didn't go with silicone); he is suggesting an areola lift this year (sp?) so mine will perk up and I'm afraid of it too!!! So what is the hammer effect?
February 9, 2015
Thank you! I hope my journey helps someone else as I have gotten alot of info from others on here. What size implants did u have initially? What cc do u have now? My interpretation of my doctors explanation of the 'hammer' effect is this: When a saline implant and a slicone implant are laying flat-they look very similar. They feel different but they look similar. If you hold them straight up n down next to each other-all the saline is at the bottom of the implant capsule. The silicone implant is more evenly dispersed throughout the implant. The 'weight' of the saline implant is constantly putting pressure at the lowest area of ur breast pocket. Over time our breast tissue thins out due to the constant pressure on it. Thus the 'hammer' effect. well thats my interpretation of it anyway. I was absolutely afraid of the silicon implants, myself, due to them being pulled off the market, etc. After talking to my PS recently and reading reviews and online research conclusions, Im alot more comfortable with giving them a try.

I had 450 replaced with 475 (probably for tissue lost in the exchange) and they are a D. Thanks for the info on the difference b/w saline and silicone!!! nobody has every explained it so well before!! I will do silicone next time, as I certainly feel the pulling down this time (before I had textured and they never dropped... the smooth ones did immediately, lol).

PS - I cannot WAIT to see the difference in the two on you, as mine are pretty much the same as yours, but of course a bit smaller since I 450/475-ish. Did he say anything about how cc's between saline and silicone differ??
February 13, 2015
She didnt say anything about the difference in cc volume between saline and silicone. Different brands of silicone and saline have thier own 'sizes' and profiles. Saline is more adjustable as far as being able to put in exactly what the PS feels will give the best result. I decided on the Sientra (Im sure they are all similar and good implants) because I read that they are 'more cohesive' than some of the other brands. I dont think they are the true 'gummy bears' though. I dont think those are approved in the US yet. I could be mistaken though. I have been all over the Internet absorbing bits and pieces everywhere! I am definitely doing my homework this time around. Im sure with the passage of time, everything gets 'new and improved'. :)

Im excited to see the difference too! Im more excited to 'feel' the difference as far as the weight goes and thier position on my chest. Hopefully, I wont feel like I have to 'carry' them from room to room when I go braless!! :D

I know what you mean, lol.

Hi everyone,
I decided to go with 440cc, possibly 470 in my smaller breast. I'm so nervous about where all this SKIN is going to go when I downsize! My PS is going to correct my pockets-capsulorraphy. When I look at my current breasts....I'm thinking, OMG! That looks like a lot of pocket to correct! I wish there were more pics on here of people downsizing.
On the plus side....I SUPER EXCITED!!! :D

Hang in there girl,I don't think I read you have a surgery date yet.Let us Know when you will have surgery.Good Luck!

Hi, my surgery date is 4-1-15. I am all over the place right now as far as what I'm going to do. Explant 630cc saline and not replace them or have a revision with new, smaller implants. My PS said I won't need a lift, which is AWESOME! Its hard for me to look at these pictures of my current breasts. They are low, sagging and HEAVY. It is difficult to envision how the pocket correction will bring them up some and inward-rather than low and wide apart. Where's that extra skin going to go?? I obviously don't saggy skin over my new implants. I trust my PS and I know I am in excellent hands. I'm going with Sientra Silicone, smooth, round 440-470cc range. I initially thought 410 and 440 but I got boob greed and went up a size.

Whoops! Surgery is 4-7-15
