WORTH IT
(probably won't post pics - don't have any before photos. Perhaps some afters down the road. sorry.)
I had my implants put in at the age of 19. I did not develop "normal" breasts as a young girl - at least not like any I had seen before... I went for consultations and was super happy at the prospect of having a lift. Then my doc talked me into size D implants as well - he swore I wouldn't be happy going from a large C to probably a small B once lift was done. I agreed. What a bummer.
I expected to be elated post surgery/healing. Instead, I was disappointed and disgusted to see my "ugly boobs" were still ugly, just in a different way. My extremely large areola were now big - not even medium or small. I had a really obvious double bubble on my right side. My left side also had one but not as noticeable. My areola's had scarring all around - I even had/have parts of what appear to be areola left outside of the "new" ones... it looks like dark pink spots on my breasts. Oh so very disappointing... If only one could reverse past decisions.
So, this leads me to my current/new stage of my breast ordeal - getting those implants out! Tired of them - how they make me feel, how conspicuous they are... I spent the better part of a year searching for a PS with the type of "bedside" manner I appreciate, the experience I expect, and the qualifications that I trust. Since my augmentation back in 1992, I have moved from California to the Mid-west. I began my search in the Toledo metro area and quickly realized I was going to have to broaden my search radius. Which led me to Birmingham, MI.
I met with Dr Karaca two months ago and I had my explant yesterday as an in-office procedure. My story won't end with the explant... Some day I'd like to have a scar revision. And possibly another lift?? I feel like, even with time and fluffing, my breasts are going to need a bit of help. But I am in no rush! My hubs (whom I married right after getting the D's) just wants me to be happy and loves my body no matter what, my kids think I suddenly look really skinny but can't figure out why/how (what a bonus!), and I went on a walk today able to breathe and stand up straight for the first time in 24 years (so happy!).
Well, that's my explant story. So thankful for finding this website and for Dr Karaca!
*actual surgery: in-office, local anesthesia, small incisions in natural crease, minor discomfort - tugging/pressure, sutures. done!*
** I cannot wait to start running again with my tiny girl's! I might have actually qualified for Boston a few years back if I hadn't had to carry them with me! Here's to new beginnings :) **
