5th month since revision surgery

It has been 5 months since the revision surgery. Despite being "overcorrected" at first, both of my ears have "relaxed" a lot, which seem more natural and "like normal ears". An incident happened that my right ear was bent aggressively during the haircut on 2nd of March, where I felt acute pain afterwards. Now the pain has been pretty much settled. It does not seem to affect my result but I am still very concerned that this incident could allow my right ear protruding further.

Hi everyone here. I have been keeping an eye on...

Hi everyone here. I have been keeping an eye on otoplasty surgery for so many years. I suppose everyone who has protruding ears has more or less thought about to get the surgery done. So, I would love to share my experience to the others for the first time :)

I had been very self-conscious since I was a teenager about my protruding ears even though no one around me has ever said they were ugly or something. But it had been always a problem there and bothered me a lot. After being struggling for many years, I finally made up my mind to do the surgery and eliminate my self-consciousness forever. I was hesitant about proceeding with which method. I decided to do Earfold implants as I was not really willing to wear the heavy dressing for at least a week.

The surgery was carried out under local anaesthesia and I had one implant inserted in each ear in November 2016. The result was great and very satisfactory at first. I experienced bruise and swelling for a while but overall recovery was not very painful. But, when the swelling started to wear off, I started noticing that the implants were becoming more and more obvious under the skin and they were highly palpable. The edge of implants could be clearly seen through the skin, which worried me a lot since they could protrude from my skin. I did not think it was acceptable. Thus, I decided to get them removed in Oct 2017 and booked myself in for the traditional otoplasty with Mrs C C Kat in November.

My surgeon combined removal and pinnaplasty. It didn't take too long to finish the surgery. Unsurprisingly, I had to wear the heavy dressing this time but I was not that bothered. At least I don't have to worry that implants could protrude. The pain was severe for the first two nights but prescribed pain relief made it manageable. From the third day forth, it became itchy and less and less painful. It has been a week now and there is still some swelling, bruising and occasional tingle. Overall, it is not suffering at all. I am quite positive and optimistic about the recovery and looking forward to the final result :)

Feel free to ask anything. I am happy to answer your questions :)
