How it works
  • Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
  • This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
  • Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
  • Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.

I want to say 3 very important things to start with: First, I would not want to be professionally reviewed online without having been given the chance to rectify the wrong, so I would not do that to someone else. Second, it is with a heavy heart this review is written because I am very fond of the staff at UAB Plastic Surgery and was fond of my doctor, Dr. Sherry Collawn. Third, I am living with so much regret for cosmetic procedures done on a whim, and have learned a very hard lesson, the I should have been kinder to myself and left well enough alone. This review is for laser liposuction done around the "jowls" of my mouth, I was struggling with a ridiculous notion in my head that I had jowls that needed to be taken care of. Dr. Collawn was the only doctor with whom I consulted about this. She informed me the laser liposuction would remove the jowl I was seeing and with the added benefit of tightening the skin! This was an outpatient procedure for which I paid about $3500 or so. The before photos were taken within a few months prior to the laser liposuction. The after pictures speak a million words. There is no way to fix what this laser did to my face, really. It not only aged my face a decade, but it changed the shape of my jaw and my mouth. Dr. Collawn said it would tighten my skin, but instead I was left with looser skin than ever. There is dimpling now all around my chin, under my chin and around my mouth which (I was told by another doctor) was the result of Dr. Collawn making too many passes in the same spot with the laser. I didn't ask for anything under my chin! Everything about this procedure ended up being awful, and anyone operating a laser should know better than this!!!! My jaw shape has changed from what was a decent shaped jaw to a horse looking mouth. I am having to get a face lift now, which I did not need before the laser liposuction. My face shape will never look the same again though. In my quest to figure out how to fix this I have given Dr. Collawn and UAB Plastic Surgery a chance to weigh in and see if they could offer any help/suggestions/money back. More specifically I have met with the head doctor of UAB Plastic Surgery, Dr de la Torre, and to Dr. Collawn more than once to express my concerns, but neither of the doctors felt that my results were anything less than optimal! It's crazy the way doctors stick together. I have recently come to find out there will never be any resolve. I tried to speak with their liaison Ryan Killingsoworth multiple times over about a 6 month period, but he would not return my phone calls, until finally one day he accidentally picked up the phone and hung up on me shortly into the call. This is not the only procedure Dr. Collawn did to me that day. I let her perform an upper eyelid surgery that ended up looking comical. And this is to Dr. Collawn: I would not have written a review if you had just given me my money back for the shoddy procedures. All I ever asked is that you would give me that 5 or 6k I paid you to do an outpatient procedure so I could go get this fixed. My advice to anyone: LOVE YOURSELF. Stop overanalyzing every minute detail. And if you must make changes, don't just read reviews, but also make sure you ask the doctor for before and after photos of their work first.
