Dr. Cohn and his entire staff are extremely talented, kind, and compassionate. Due to a family history of breast cancer I chose to have a preventative bilateral mastectomy with latissimus flap reconstruction. Thank goodness I did not wait any longer because while I intended the surgery as preventative cancer had already developed. Thankfully because it was removed so early I did not require chemo or radiation. Throughout my experience Dr. Cohn and his staff held me hand and answered any questions I had, reassuring me along the way. I had my initial procedure in May 2016, with exchange in August 2016 and nipple reconstruction in December 2016. The only thing i have left is the tatooing for coloring which is scheduled for August 2017. Even without the tatooing I have recently had two doctors fooled by my reconstruction. At a recent visit with my general surgeon he commented, "I thought we didn't save your nipples." I looked at him confused and replied, "We didn't. Dr. Cohn made these." My Doctor responded, "Wow, I'd never know by looking at them!" Then just yesterday I was at my oncologist waiting for her exam and she looked at me confused and said, "My notes say you had a bilateral mastectomy, is that not correct." I told she was correct that i had my surgery a little over a year ago. She looked at me closer and said, "Well, you certainly can't tell they aren't real by looking at them." Both of these comments came from medical professionals seeing me without a top on yet from just looking neither could tell that I had had surgery. i consider that the best possible reaction you can get following such a physically and emotionally difficult surgery process.
