I'm 5'8, 133lbs, 41 years old. I had vsg (vertical sleeve gastrectomy) 8/23/2013 lost 100lbs. Between breast feeding 2 children and 100 lbs of weight loss my breast shrunk from a full 36 DD to a 32A and it's deflated and saggy! I had my consultation with Dr. Christopher Schaffer in Birmingham, Al. I loved his nurse Penny! Such a sweet and informative lady! She made me feel so comfortable! I tried on the sizers, and think I'm going to go with 500cc saline under the muscle. Dr. Schaffer measures me and said I don't need a lift! Praise God!!! I was so afraid I would need one. He also said my breast are almost identical and that is a good thing that he doesn't see often! He didn't try to sway me between saline and silicone and really didn't have a problem with me wanting to go with a larger implant! He said both breast measure 13(not quite sure what that means). I originally wanted to have the axillary approach but he advised that I need to do biplane so I will go with his advice! I will try to add some before photos

Dr. Schaffer is awesome. I'm 5'8" myself and had the 500cc saline implants under muscle. Congratulations on your weight loss. Best of luck to you as you go through your surgery.

Thank you so much! I'm excited and nervous!!! I'm so afraid of going too big! I don't wanna go to small either though! How are you feeling? Are you happy with your outcome?

I feel great and I really didn't experience too much post-surgery pain. I think the roughest part is finding the right position to sleep. I am sooo happy with my outcome. Dr. Schaffer recommended a lift for the best look but said he could do the implants under and then if we felt like I needed a lift I could choose to do so later but after my post-op appointments he said everything looked great and my breasts look fine without a lift. I was like a 38C and told him I wanted to increase to a DD. I tried on the 450 & 500 cc sizers at my consultation and chose the 500. I now wear a 38DD and 36DDD I know they can't promise a certain cup size but he sure calculated correctly for me. I live about 360 miles from their office but I would definitely go back to him if I need any more surgery done again. He is fabulous surgeon. I'm sure you will be happy too. Any questions, feel free to ask me.

I tried on the sizers and loved the look of the 500cc but it's very large! I'm a little nervous. Did dr. Schaffer have you do massages? I forgot to ask at my preop appointment. Also how do they feel? You said you went with saline, so many people say the saline feels hard and others say its soft! I'm just so ready to get my surgery over with already! lol

Yes he did have me start doing massages after 1 month. I may be a little broader boned than you but 500cc doesn't look huge on me. I was a little curvy all over before anyway. I weighed 162 the day of surgery. My husband says they feel very natural. We've been married for 27 years so he should know. LOL I can feel the edges of the implants but cannot see them. I wear a 36ddd in Victoria's secret bras. I was a full 38 C when I went for my consultation if this gives you any idea. I did go in asking to be a DD so he knew what he was doing in getting me the size I needed to be. Hope this helps you!

Thank you! I'm so glad your happy with your results! Gives me more hope for my own! I have zero breast tissue after all my weight loss so that concerns me a little about the implant showing but it will still be much better than this bony wall I have going on in front now :-)

Hi, good luck for your surgery. I'll look forward to seeing how you go. I had a vsg jan 2014 and have lost and have lost 66 lbs so far. I've basically stalled and finding it very hard to lose anymore. Did you lose your 100 easily? Any advice would be appreciated:-) I'm 54 and had old implants under the muscle. I've just had them exchanged for 450 textured cohesive silicone over the muscle. without the implants my surgeon said I was basically flat. Im so pleased the implants seem to have filled me up so I didn't need a lift..although I'm only at 4 days post op so the end results will be awhile off. I'd like to keep in touch :-)

Hi Kiwibelle! I typed this long reply and I guess it didn't post...I did have a few stalls in my weight loss that lasted over a month each in between losses. Try not to get discouraged, it's just part of our bodies process . Just keep getting in your protein, water and you will lose! I kept my carb intake very low the first year and had little to no sugar! I am about 12 lbs below my goal weight, I've been trying very hard to gain but my body seems to like this weight. I fluctuate between 128-133. I wear a size 4 and would love to be back in my 6's. I can't wait to see your final results when the drop & fluffy fairy visits! I'm so excited and ready to be on the other side of this! Lol Please do keep in touch and let me know how your doing!

Ok ladies, I got there at 6:30 am signed all the papers was taken back by 7. Took my pictures, marked me up, Dr. Schaffer came in we discussed what I wanted and my expectations! He is so professional and nice! The anesthesiologist came in and she's amazing! Never even felt a thing! Walked me back to the surgery suite she talked with me a minute maybe and I was out! Woke up shaking uncontrollably for about an hour. I had a ton of pressure very uncomfortable but not unbearable. I was back at my hotel by 11. Ate a fee crackers, drank some Gatorade and took my hydrocodone 10 mg. propped up in bed almost 2 hours before finally dozing off. Woke up at 2:11 in a bit more pain and a lot more pressure. Having muscle spasms here and there so took a Valium instead of pain meds. By 4:40 I had to take half a hydrocodone. Icing every 30 minutes helps so much! My arms hurt, I'm assuming from them strapping them down and from swelling. My back is really aching, my boyfriend is about to massage it so hopefully that helps. I gotta say Tonya was my recovery nurse and I loved her!!! I had a really good experience! Will try to update more as I go! Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes!

Glad it went well for you. I don't know what my recovery nurse's name was but she took great care of me. My blood pressure had dropped so I had to wait for it to come up some before I could go. I hope you get a good night's rest. :)

Thank you! I think the headache I have is the worst part. I would've thought the pain meds would take it away but, no such luck. I just ice my boobs and my head! lol

Have hours dropped and fluffed now? I expected them to be harder than they are so that was a nice surprise

Glad it went well! I was shivering so much too when I first woke up. It lasted about an hour.

You are looking fabulous! You must be thrilled! Can I ask why you went with the saline? What are the dimensions of your implants?
User Avatar

I just did a lot of research and felt that saline was the best decision for me. I knew I wouldn't want to be compliant with the mammograms they suggest with silicon. I have mentor smooth round moderate plus. I wanted side boob! Which is why I chose moderate. Because I have such a long chest he did mention high profile but I didn't want as much projection. Maybe I should have went with high profile so they wouldn't look as low once they drop but he said the moderates would still look good.
