My vision was so poor all I could read was the largest letter on the vision test scale. Corrective vision is the best choice I've ever made. I wish I had done it sooner but I was so scared I'd be blind or some other dumb reason not to get a proven and effective procedure. Smh. Anyway, I decided to get it after years of doubt which cost me so much money. I used to spend around $2k a year on contacts and designer eye glasses. I found a special on Groupon for $899 for lasik. I bought it and was scheduled for surgery. I added in lifetime eye protection which cost an extra $500. I also added tear duct plugs to help with dryness. These plugs are inserted into your tear ducts. They're tiny white things that stung a little when the doctor put them in using tweezers (post-op). The plugs cost $500 extra. Honestly I don't recommend the eye protection nor the tear duct implants because the implants did not improve dryness and the protection requires annual check ups with the lasik institute which costs $100 a year. I've already had my 1st annual check up. I didn't see the optometrist, I was asked if I had any issues with my eyes, I had my vision checked btw it's 15/15, and I was rescheduled for next year. Now the procedure itself was scary because I'm a scary cat. I was given 2 Valiums for my nerves. Apparently Valium doesn't work for me because after 20 minutes I began to get very anxious and nervous. I even told the surgeon that I couldn't go through with it and got up to leave. Instead of allowing me to do it he gently grabbed my hand and called his nurse in. They explained that I had no worries that everything would be okay. He and the nurse began to pray for his success for the procedure and my safety. I cried like a little girl. Lol! Went to the back room and they had me lay on a table. They gave me a stuffed animal to squeeze lol. The worst part was the apparatus to keep the eye open. That thing was very uncomfortable but does not hurt. I have a low tolerance for pain. The doctor rubbed acetone in my eye, my vision was almost gone except the red, green, and yellow lazers on the machine. The surgeon said ok here's the lazers. It made a sound I smelled burning flesh and he wiped my eye again. He pulled the apparatus out to hold my eye open then put a patch on my eye. After that he did the same to the next eye. He worked on each eye for less than 1 minute. The procedure was done in under 5 minutes including the time to lay down and get me a teddy bear to hold on to. After the 2nd eye the doc said ok stand up. I stood up and my vision was crystal clear. Ok now the fun part. Prk has a 4 day recovery process. 1st day was ok but I was just sleepy. 2nd and 3rd day my eyes were burning constantly like I had put a chemical in my eye like...idk alcohol. During that time I could not see anything. It hurt to open my eyes. I was so sensitive to light that not even a candle could be lit up near me or even moonlight. My room has windows that let in beautiful moonlight and for 2 days I hated the moon. 4th day most of that subsided and my vision was great again. There were also 3 types of eye drops that I had to take. They have to be taken completely or you risk complications like dryness and night vision problems. The drops will effect your taste. For me it reduced my appetite and I lost weight. Also for about 3 weeks my vision fluctuated and blurred until it was perfect. Overall hands down the best decision ever!
