WORTH IT
I am 58 and just had mohs 16 Feb 2015 on my nose left sidewall and was so terrified and worried not knowing how much cutting they had to do! I will be three weeks on Monday. Most of the wound is closed. I can cover the red, bumpiness with makeup and will soon have to return to work. I have an extensive suture line. Eyebrow to the bottom of my nose. MD

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Please continue to update us on your healing. Are you using anything particular or massaging the area to help with the scar tissue?

I will have to undergo MOHs, just got diagnosed with basel cell today

Yes, it was scary to hear those words. Make sure you go to a Mohs surgeon who has good credentials and numerous hours of experience. My fear was how many cuts will they need to make? The initial cut was done and they had to cut one more time before all margins were clear. If they had to cut one more time I would of asked for some type of sedation. I was getting so nervous every time they cut or injected me with numbing medication. Blood pressure was up at the start and also up at the completion. The lidocaine raises blood pressure anyway but I was just nervous. It was three week this past Monday and incision is completely healed, redness and bumpiness remains but I feel it will be minimal. Where is your cancer? Hope all goes well, if you have any other questions I would be happy to answer.

It really is a traumatic experience and you don't feel like you can express your feelings , it's just bc after all not one of the "bad ones". Everyone is telling you your incision looks good, healing great... but it is a change to your physical and emotional sense of self. It will get better but that's hard to see right now. Hang in there.

Hi - I feel for you, I am scheduled to do this in about 10 days and am just freaked. My question is did they start at the side of your nose and go up? I had a little bump on the side of my nose, just about at the bottom of your scar. I'm wondering if this is a possibility for me as well. I'm about to say forget it, I'll take my chances.

don't say forget it. I ignored mine and it became invasive. Dangerously close to my eye and grew. Maybe you can get aldera cream. But don't ignore it.

Yeah I guess I can't forget it. Not sleeping at night worrying about this. The scary part (as you well know) is the unknown amount of cutting. Thanks, good luck with your healing and wish me luck.

At no point say "forget it" .... My first one was a Basel cell but I didn't realize it.... The "roots" yeeessss had grown so deep that the dr had said if I waited any longer it would have caused skull damage in my FACE by my eye.....and I had just gone in there for vanity over a stupid mole in my eyebrow.... 20 years later you can't even see where he did the work but I FREAKED..... Do not ignore any of this!!!!!

Yes good luck i hope all goes well. I did not have mohs ,i had Plastic surgeon do operation he got all the cancer and i was asleep during surgery. so far so good, I still have a small bcc i need to have removed i will have it frozen off or cream if i can.

Mine was the same 3cm and at risk of bone invasion and losing an eye. Even with a scar i am glad it is gone.

Hiya: I’ve been diagnosed with a BCC on the ridge(slightly to left side) of my nose, and is planning on having a MOHS done ASAP. I went to 2 MOHS surgeons, one suggested a long suture ( I guess pretty much like yours, BTW, your 6weeks photo looks fantastic! )But the 2nd surgeon suggested to do a “flap” to cover the hole, as he thinks the flap gonna heal better cosmetically, (not pulling the nose to 1 side) I was just wondering, were you given the option to get a flap? But I said, even with the initial long sutures, your 6 weeks post op photo looks great!
