My Ear Revision Experience

Dr. Reinisch is considered one of the world's experts in ear surgery. I went to him for an ear revision after a different plastic surgeon mangled my ear during a revision rhinoplasty. All the doctors I talked to about my ear said it would never look normal again. Dr. Reinisch didn't make it look great (everyone told me that's impossible), but he did improve it so it's less deformed now. I will try to post pictures soon. And he seems nice.
But he is part of Cedars, which has a very unethical billing department. Don't be surprised if after you go to Dr. Reinisch, Cedars billing department tries to con you and harass you into paying more than you owe.

How did Frankel explain away the mutilation of your ear?
October 22, 2018
He didn't really. He offered to cut off the part that was sticking out funny, but I decided to get second opinions from ear specialists, and decided to go with Dr. Reinisch.

Good God I just saw the photo of your ear after Frankel and then after if was repaired. He should be ashamed of himself!

Here are the before and after pics

Here are my before and after pics from my ear revision with Dr. Reinisch. I know my final ear does not look great, but considering that all the surgeons I met with told me it would be deformed forever no matter what I did, I think he did a good job improving it. But judge for yourself.

I think it looks really good, if I saw you in person I'd have no idea anything was ever wrong. It looks perfectly normal to me. I'm glad you found someone to help. :-)

What did he do to make it look deformed? Did he take cartilage fro the front of the ear?
October 5, 2018
I don't fully understand your question. My rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr. Andrew Frankel, made it deformed (see my 1st pic). He took cartilage from the ear, going in from the back of the ear, to put in my nose - and somehow messed things up. The surgeons I consulted with to try to repair the ear disagreed about what Dr. Frankel did wrong. Dr. Reinisch thought once the ear was opened from behind, Dr. Frankel cut too high up and therefore a chunk was removed from the middle ridge. Dr. Reinisch says this is the reason he almost never goes into the ear from behind. He says it's too hard to see what you're doing that way. For Dr. Reinisch's repair work, he went into my ear from the front. He cut off the part that was sticking out bad, made it into a graft, and put the graft into the space where cartilage was missing. I was awake for Dr. Reinisch's procedure, and it took about 20-30 minutes. Let me know if you have more questions.

Hii I have major telephone deformity in my right ear. Was wondering what the price was for repair

Hi- Sorry you're going through that. You will probably have to call his office to get a price estimate. My surgery with Dr. Reinisch cost $1800, but I had a different problem than you have. He was more expensive than the other surgeons I consulted with. Probably because he is more experienced. Good luck!

What is wrong with your ear after Reinisch repaired it? Does the cartilage all connect now? Is there a scar from where Reinisch cut into to get to the cartilage? How long was the healing process and was there any swelling or downtime? It looks good!

Thanks! In the middle ridge of my ear, Dr. Frankel apparently removed a chunk of cartilage, leaving a gap. Dr. Reinisch filled in that gap with some cartilage, but I believe that some of the cartilage absorbed. So where the gap was, it's now filled in, but not quite completely. There's still a dent there, while there was no gap or dent before I went to Dr. Frankel. There is a scar on the outside of the ear where Dr. Reinisch cut into it, but it's not noticeable to me at all. The surgery took about 30 minutes, with me awake the whole time. I could drive myself home that day and felt fine to do work after, and Dr. Reinisch said I could even go swimming (but I didn't). I think the total healing took several months - maybe like 8 or 9. Of course the most intense healing was in the first month or so, where I just tried to not touch the ear except to clean it, and tried not to sleep on it. Let me know if you have more questions. I'm very sorry if you're going through something like this too from a bad rhinoplasty.

I think dr reinish did a very remarkable
Job, your ear looks perfect, though indeed i Guess he just removed the evident edge that you had on the anthelical fold, because in 20 minutes is super hard to build up a cartilage graft , and fix it to the surrounding cartilage. But again the result is super now.

In person I was asked recently what was wrong with my ear. So it's better, but not perfect. I am back to covering it with both a bandage and hair.
