I am 41 years old and I have always been self-conscious about my deviated septum. I felt my nose was too large for my face and it took away from my facial features. I wanted to do the surgery since I was in high school and finally got the courage to start researching doctors about two years ago. I have had about 8-10 consultations. I have researched doctors after my consultations to make sure they were board certified, that they didn't have sanctions or malpractice judgments, etc. However, I never felt confident with any of the doctors I met, to go ahead with my procedure until I met Dr. Kotler in December 2014. I booked my procedure the day after my consultation for January 15, 2015.
The day of my surgery, the surgery center and the nurses were fantastic. The actual procedure took about 2 hours. As soon as I came out of surgery, I was able to breath! I felt no pain through the entire recovery, only a bit of pressure the first two days at night, and I only took 2 Tylenol 500 mg (no pain medication at all). Before the actual procedure, Mary, the Patient Coordinator, gave me a list of instructions on how to care for my nose at home after the surgery and after the cast is removed. I also got a "care package" with nasal sprays, gauze, and everything I needed for my recovery at home. I also got the doctor's phone numbers for his house and cell in case I needed to reach him and he called me the night of the surgery to check and see how I was doing.
My cast, the packing and the tubes I had since my surgery were removed on the 5th day and I was just amazed at the results, even with swelling and bruising. Most of the bruising and swelling were gone by week two. Every day is looking better and better.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm glad you're pleased with your results! Do you have any tips for others going through a rhino-septoplasty?
Do your research about the doctor you select and make sure you get lots of instructions and tips about how to care for your nose while recovering at home to minimize bruising and swelling. Also, be prepared before your surgery, get the medications and supplies you may need ahead of time, buy food for a week (especially foods that are soft and don't require too much chewing), and drink lots of liquids. My doctor recommended to eat fresh pineapple (not pineapple juice) to help with the bruising and swelling. I went through 5 pineapples during my recovery!
How much was the surgery?
Your nose looks great.
Hi Joanne,
Thank you! My procedure was $12,500, but I know that the price varies depending on the case. I am thrilled with my results :)
