I had a septo-rhinoplasty with Dr. Rahban last...

I had a septo-rhinoplasty with Dr. Rahban last December 2015. It was a surgery I had wanted for years - something that I meticulously researched and agonized over tirelessly - not only for aesthetic reasons (how does a nose get bigger over time?) but also for practical reasons, as I had suffered from breathing problems since adolescence. After years of being on the fence, I finally decided that 2015 was the year I was going to go through with it.

I made consultation appointments with 3 doctors in the BH/LA area. Dr. Rahban was the second surgeon I met with. After my consultation, I knew that he was the right person for me. Dr. Rady cares about his patients - and more importantly - he's honest and forthright about what he can and will not do. He's a perfectionist, a realist, an aesthete, and ultimately an artist. I explained to him exactly what I wanted – an improvement on my nose, but one that still looked like it belonged to me. I didn't want to completely change my face. He understood exactly what I wanted, explain to me in detail his strategy, and didn’t push me to do other procedures (another doctor I met with pushed so hard for a chin implant that I felt like I was dealing with a car salesman). After meeting with one more doctor, I made my decision and scheduled my surgery with Dr. Rahban.

My surgery and recovery were relatively painless. I say relatively because having your nose packed with gauze and breathing through your mouth is hardly a nice experience. However, considering my surgery was 3+ hours, and required bone breakage and grafts, I was completely in shock that I did not bruise around my eyes or nose. I had very slight green discoloring but that was it. Most people with major face surgery come out looking like Rocky Balboa, but I didn’t. Truly amazing. After six days, I returned to his office to remove the cast and packing and be evaluated. If you suffer from breathing problems, let me tell you this: nothing in the world feels better than the moment you get your cast and packing removed. My first inhale through my new nose gave me a feeling I can only describe as euphoric. Holy moly, I could breathe! Really, seriously, BREATHE. Straight up oxygen to my brain. It was glorious! When I finally looked in the mirror, I saw an improved me – still me, but with a nose that was more refined, a little more delicate, a little more feminine. He got me. He got what I wanted and executed it just as I had hoped.

It’s been almost a year since my surgery, and it’s true what he said. You have to be patient. To this day, I can wake up and find my nose really swollen (don’t eat MSG), and other days not-so-much. Throughout this year, I’ve learned a lot about patience and letting go. I’m happy with my nose – I know this because it’s no longer something I think about our obsess over. It’s a relief to feel that way after so many years of being unhappy with it. Dr. Rahban was the right doctor for me, and I’m happy I chose a doctor with integrity, honesty, kindness, and tremendous skill. His staff is also amazing and kind - particularly Sally – and are reflective of who he is and does. I know that if I decide to have any other procedures down the road, he will be my surgeon.

Thanks Dr. Rady!

Dr. Rahban is not only one of the best plastic surgeons in town, he is also the kindest, most honest doctor you'll ever meet. He is not snake oil salesman - he will be detailed and direct with his strategy from the moment you meet him, and will guide you through recovery. He does not perform cookie cutter, assembly line rhinoplasty, and will tailor the nose to the individual.
