WORTH IT$65,000
Sorry it's been awhile since I posted, but i had a son and life took over. Anyways...In Oct 2015 Dr Jason Scott Hamilton in Beverly Hills, CA performed a revision rhinoplasty on me. My 1st rhino was done in Florida and after 10 years, my nose became more & more slanted, thinned out and pinched. So much so, that i even developed a hole in my septum, which Dr. Hamilton specializes in repairing. His technique is top-notch!! My nose was starting to feel a bit michael jackson, which is what i was fearing. lol - Anyway, Dr Hamilton called from cali to nyc for a free consultation and we were on the phone for about 35 min. He answered every question and made me feel very at ease. I had spoken to several other docs but Dr Hamilton was the easiest to chat with and the most honest, i believe. Anyhow i went to a top surgeon here in nyc - (Dr. R.) on Upper East Side... i will just keep his name as that...but his consult was around $300 - insane!!! - What he told me was that i should get the outside fixed and then later at some point get inside hole fixed. This didn't sound right!! When i spoke to dr Hamilton he confirmed the bad feeling I had. He basically said that a house has to have a good foundation on the inside or it will fall apart. It made sense in my case and i was convinced. Although the septal perforation alone was around 50k ....thank God my insurance covered all that. Out of pocket i ended up paying around 8k for the cosmetic part of the procedure. I rate him well because he is highly qualified and i know if he can repair a nose with reconstructive surgery he could def fix the septum and the collapsing of my tip to one side. Highly recommend him. Here are before & after pics, sorry didnt want to show my face.. Best!! Hope this helps you choose someone to do your REVISION Rhino surgery! :)

Do you mind telling me who was your primary surgeon in FL. You can write me an inbox maybe. I'm in Fl looking for someone that's why
April 28, 2016
Hi, Yes I mentioned that in a comment above somewhere. His name was Dr. stern. I wouldn't use him - I don't think he did a good job. He thinned out my nose too much.

Hi Rosas2010, I am going to have a consultation with a renowned specialist in septal perforation repair in July. He doesn't deal with insurance companies and is out of network. Can I ask how you got your insurance to cover the cost of septal perf repair? Which carrier do you have? Any advice on when insurance companies consider septal perf repair medically necessary? Do you have any idea which CPT (and even ICD-10) codes were used by your insurance company? Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to figure all this out so I'll know how much it will cost. Surgeon is quoting me at least $30k, maybe more, depending on results of consultation. Thank you and congratulations on your successful operation!

I have Oxford healthcare - the doctors office at dr hamiltons said my insurance would cover it. I would suggest you try calling Dr. Hamilton's office and give them your insurance and see if he gets covered. I don't know what codes they used, but it certainly got all paid for. In my opinion Dr. Hamilton did a fantastic job and his method of fixing it was pretty unique . They handled all the financial stuff without any issues whatsoever . Again you should try Dr. Hamilton's office before committing to paying $30,000. I'm just saying in case for whatever reason they allow it to be deducted from your insurance he wouldn't be wasting all that money. The septal perforation (fix) operation is very expensive . I'm curious why you would deal with the doctor that doesn't deal with insurance companies and is out of network ?? Dr. Hamilton's success rates are very high .

They handled everything and they were in California and I was in New York… And I was called and told me that my insurance company approved the surgery. At the same time I actually had revision rhinoplasty ...to fix the exterior cosmetic of my nose and pinched tip. That portion I actually had to pay out-of-pocket but it only ended up being around $8000 .
May 2, 2016
Hi Rosas2010, thanks so much for your reply. I contacted Dr. Hamilton and they do appear to be able to work with the insurance company. Yay! Thanks for the advice. Like you, I also need rhinoplasty and will be happy to pay for that myself as long as insurance covers the perf surgery. Thanks again for your posts.

That's great! good to hear, You'll be happy you did it. By the way, after the surgery was difficult as I had to leave a splint in my nose for almost a month to be safe. That was nerve-wrecking because i kept thinking it might be getting infected..i couldn't blow my nose etc. But thankfully Dr Hamilton always called me back whenever i left a message and was concerned. He always made me feel at ease, and sometimes his assistant would call me too. Best of luck to you.
May 2, 2016
p.s. As long as you take care of it properly it should be just fine.
May 2, 2016
Oh my! What if you sneezed? How did you prevent that?
May 2, 2016
I think i recall Doc said when you have to sneeze, try to sneeze with pressure out of your mouth if you can..I usually kept myself from sneezing as much as i can. But a couple times it just happened..that is what the splint is there for mostly to protect the surgical area and make sure it heals strongly in place etc. Dr , Hamilton's staff is really good at making you feel at ease with what you should and shouldn't do. Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Hi Rosa, how much time did you have to take off of work for the surgery? Also, how many days did you have to stay in LA before you could fly back home? Thanks.
May 3, 2016
I think I stayed in LA about 9 days or so because I needed to go back for check up. Then when I got back home to NYC I had to go back within a month to remove splints from nose... I work from home so it's different. But I imagine you can still go to work after a week or two. Just got to be careful with lifting or anyone hitting your nose... Etc. also I was trying to avoid getting a cold cause of the splint.. I didn't want to get cold & start sneezing etc. but your nose will be very swollen... I felt horrible at first . My nose looked big lol - and then after 2 weeks it started to look better... Less swollen looking.
May 3, 2016
OK, thanks, so it sounds like 2 weeks off would be ideal. After that amount of time, would I likely be able to go back to work without bandages on my nose or swelling?

Also, how many days were you back in LA when you had the stints taken out?

As far as feeling horrible at first, I hope they give you RX to help with the pain?

Thanks!
May 3, 2016
Yes I think there's only one small bandage under your nostril .. But it comes off. Swelling will still be present - there could even be minor brushing it depends on your body how u heal. I had VERY little (if at all) any bruising. After splints I think I was only in LA for total of 3 days . Dr Hamilton also visited NYC a few months after my surgery and they scheduled to see me while they were here which was ideal too. Yes I had pain mess but I didn't need much. It wasn't that painful really after the first 3-4 days. Eat lots of pineapple to reduce the inflammation. I felt horrible meaning with the swelling, how my nose looked. It looked abnormal because of swelling at first. Everyday it got Better though.
May 3, 2016
* I meant I had pain meds, not mess lol

Just wanted to give an update -- I am scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Jason Hamilton in Beverly Hills in June! He is going to fix my large septal perforation (perforated septum) and also do rhinoplasty to correct the tip. I used to have a button nose but I think the septal perf made the cartilage shift and now I have a pointy nose and there is a ball on the tip. I am so excited to finally be taking care of this longstanding problem! Plus, there are worse places to spend a week than LA. :) Will keep you posted.
May 20, 2016
That's great! You should do before & after pics... So others can be helped & informed. Best xo
May 20, 2016
Thanks! Yeah, I was planning to write a review of Dr. Hamilton after the surgery and post before pics and then update with after pics every so often to show progress.

Your after pic is not really good for showing the result . Can you post a more clear photo?? Sorry , I hate to ask but it's really hard to see
April 26, 2016
I agree, not seeing the results. For $65,000, it would be great to see what you get for that money.
April 26, 2016
I agree.
April 26, 2016
sorry i didnt have time to find pictures, and i dont want to show my face entirely. although for 65K, it wasnt the cosmetic part that cost so much keep that in mind, the high cost was to fix the hole in my septum. Trust me it was worth every penny. Having a hole in the septum can cause many problems.
April 26, 2016
will post a couple more pics i found today.
April 26, 2016
Who did your primary surgery?
April 26, 2016
when i think of his name i will tell you, he is based out of Florida, Tampa..Don't recall his name its been a long time.... But i wouldn't go back to him ever again.
April 26, 2016
Ok just recalled his name. First rhino doc was in Tampa Florida. dr stern.

Please keep in mind that the high price was not for the exterior cosmetic part, it was to fix the INSIDE of my nose!! The hole in my septum was fixed the right way (the way dr hamilton did it) and that is the reason i went to him. He has a high success rate in that type of surgery and most surgeons will NOT do that surgery, or are not trained in it. The actual revision cosmetic part (on the outside) only cost around 8K!!!! with Dr Hamilton - He is a great doc!

K65? Holly Molly lol
Might you post a collage of after just like the one you did for the before? Glad you like your revision.
April 26, 2016
Unfortunately i don't know if i will be posting more AFTER pics for privacy reasons. the pics i posted for "after" show clearly the difference. I am totally happy with results and the difference can be seen. AGAIN pls keep in mind...I DID NOT PAY 65K for "COSMETIC RHINO Revision". The 65k was total cost for a few different things i had done. Most of the 65k went toward fixing THE HOLE in my septum. This is a complex surgery and pricey. But that part thankfully ,was covered by my insurance! Like i said above, The "revision cosmetic" part with Dr Hamilton was ONLY ---->>>> $8,000. Worth it. So if youre looking for revision RHINO, then it would probably be around $8000 or so. Again prob depending on the complexity of your issues..

I understand the price tag wasn't entirely related to the cosmetic part. Still expensive and I am glad your insurance covered part of it and you are happy with your results. I also had surgery with dr H. He is a great surgeon. Happy recovery.

SINDY1, check out Russ Kridel, MD in Houston. If you have a septal perforation, he specializes in SP repair + rhinoplasty. He doesn't accept insurance though FYI.

Bindallastx , how did you hear about him? Have you seen any patients done something with him?
May 30, 2016
I actually had sinus surgery performed by him in the late 1990s. But he has quite a reputation for being a renowned surgeon. Just google him and you can find his website with before and afters. Good luck!

How is your nose shape looks after the sinus surgery. Thanks for your patience
