I am going in tomorrow for Upper Eyelid Ptosis Surgery with Dr. Taban in Beverly Hills. I have had a droopy eyelid my entire life. It's called conginental ptosis of the left eyelid. I have done hundreds of hours of research finding the right doctor, going back and forth between a few in Beverly Hills. I chose Dr. Taban because he seemed like the most skilled doctor for my condition. Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to get my eye fixed, but I remember my mom talking me out of doing it. She said my eye was part of my personality. It's bothered me for as long as I can remember. Junior high, high school, college, every relationship I've been in, it's always been something that has been holding me back. It's not like I care what people think about me, I just feel tired most of the time, when I know I am not. Like at night when I am watching TV or I'm out with my girlfriend or friends, it just droops lower and people say "wow you look drunk, or wow you look tired". When in reality, I am not drunk and I am not tired. Having one eye half closed really affects the way you see the world. My right eye has always been dominant, and I know that's why my vision in my right eye has steadily gotten worse, it's just working too hard. So, tomorrow I am making a making a choise to change that. Excitement and nervousness. Excited to hopefully be able to stop thinking about every time I look at myself in the mirror, and nervous and hopeful that it doesn't get over corrected, or some other complication. It's funny, every time I start talking to someone, doesn't matter who it is, they unconsciously rub their eye. No one has ever noticed themselves doing it, but I see it every single time. I know that most people don't care, but it's obvious that people I interact with notice my left eye, but then they just brush it off like it's normal, because that's just me. When something clogs up your thinking, it's time to make a change. So, welcome to my story. I'll be posting more pics after the surgery. Wish me luck, but also, wish my skilled Doctor even more luck.

I pretty much the exact same story, having dealt with ptosis of the left eye my entire life. I had this procedure done in August and was not pleased with the outcome. I had a second surgery on April 4th, this time on the interior muellers muscle. Waiting on swelling to subside to see if this surgery was hopefully more successful. Thank for sharing your experience. I’m anxious and don’t know if anyone with a similar experience.

Hey Kristen, that’s crazy to here you had to have two surgeries. What made you not happy with the first one? My eye is still really swollen, it was perfect last week for two days and then swelled up again.

That’s encouraging that you saw improvement. It took me around 4 months for all the swelling to subside and everything to settle. I was in the 10% that does not show improvement in the eyelid height, I felt like it even made it worse. It doesn’t look like the 2nd procedure helped much either, but I know it can take time. I also experienced my right eyelid lifting up higher ( herrings law) after this last procedure, which *should* work itself out. I’m giving myself another few weeks to recover to make final judgements on the outcome. Congenital ptosis is harder to correct, so I knew I was taking a risk. It’s so difficult navigating this. I 34, I really wanted to fix this, and to go through the recovery, which is no fun, and not have the expected and hoped for outcome is disheartening. Thanks for the update; I so hope you get the results you were after and the ptosis no longer is an issue for you!

I've always had slight ptosis in my right eye, as does my dad and nephew, but then 2 months ago my right eye looked weird then my left started doing it, I thought I had swallon puffy eyelids and tried alsorts, till I realised by a story on Realself it was ptosis, but my ptosis changes all the time sometimes it's one eye sometimes if I'm be very tired it's both, but mine look so horrible, I get this weird extra crease/fold where my eyelid crease moves up higher due to the ptosis, and my eyes look half shut sometimes too, I'm in the UK and have no money so I'm probably stuck looking like this, I'm being tested for myasthenia gravis and seeing eye doctor in August, I feel so ugly and my eyes alway hurt and are dry from forcing them open, if I had an op I'm scared it won't help the extra crease/fold and I'm scared it might get over corrected or that I won't be able to shut my eyes! It's making me depressed.

Hello! Thank you for your information. I have ptosis in both eyes, worse in my right and I’m considering having the surgery done by Dr. Taban. Do you have a picture of your final result without the swelling or bruising? Are you pleased with how it turned out? Do you know the name of the exact procedure he performed? I had ptosis surgery done three years ago in my right eye and it literally didn’t help at all. Thank you!

Did not correct on my son. We are seeking another surgeon. He promised things in writing and changed his promise the day of surgery when undressed with an IV inserted.

Omg! That is awful! Did Dr. Taban do the surgery?

Day 1 of surgery

Today was the day! Went in at 11:30, given a anxiety med to help relax, and an hour later was on the table. Everyone in the office was super friendly and made sure everything was going well the entire time. Dr. Taban injected few numbing shots which didn’t hurt. As he was performing surgery he would ask me to open and close my eyes look at him and make sure everything was going even. I didn’t feel any pain the whole time. It was done in 40 minutes. They have me some delicious cookies and made sure I was feeling okay. My wonderful girlfriend drove me back to the Kyle where I slept most of the day. All in all, haven’t really been in pain at all. I know there is spouses to redness and swelling and that is normal. Dr,. Taban gave me a follow up call to make sure I was feeling good and to seeing I had questions, which I thought was very thoughtful. So far, so good!

Hey Casey! Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I also have ptosis in my left eye and got surgery a couple of days ago. I wanted to ask what kind of ptosis surgery you got to compare how my eye is healing.
April 24, 2018
Hi Sammy! I’m not sure exactly what surgery it was. It is healing okay. Last week I had two good days, now my eyelid is swollen again. I guess it takes a few months to get completely healed. Once my eye stops swelling and the itch goes away, I think it will look perfect. Good luck! Let me know how everything goes.

So today is Friday, it’s been 7 full days. Each day has gotten better and better. The last few days I had to go back to work and my eyes were super irritated and it made it hard to work. Note to self, don’t go back to work after surgery, it sucks. But today my eye feels a lot better. The swelling has gone down a lot and it is still a tad droopier than the other, but I know it takes three months for it to fully heal. I’ve been using my right eye a lot more than normal so I’m sure that hasn’t helped. I think in a few more days all the bruising will have away and my eye will look much more normal. Right now, it just looks like I got into a fight and probably lost! At first I wasn’t going to tell anyone, maybe a little embarrassed about being self conscious over anything, but now I really don’t care who I tell. It’s bothered me my entire life and I finally made her decision to change it. I already feel so much more confident, knowing that it will look how I want it to once everything heals. I’ll keep you posted!

I just got the same procedure done on Monday! How are your eyes now? How long before the bruising/swelling went down? Are you happy with the results?
June 7, 2018
Wow, yours looks way better than mine did at 7 days. To be honest, it takes about 6 months to see the full results. Good luck!
November 9, 2018
Thank you! I’m pretty happy now with the results.
