Update - 1 year post procedure
I thought I'd provide an update after 1 year. I am still very pleased with my results. I've healed nicely and have had zero complications. I continue to work out very hard 5-7 days/week and eat well, but the procedure definitely gave me the definition i was looking for and helped my muscles "pop" - giving me resting definition in my arms and abs especially - something that I didn't have before. Summary:
After much research and thought, I decided to have dr. Emer perform hi-def liposuction and fat transfer. I am EXTREMELY happy with the results.
Why I wanted the procedure:
I work out religiously and eat healthy. I had relatively low body fat (12% - 14%) but I could never see the type of muscle definition I was trying to achieve. Every time i dieted, my muscles looked flat and I lost my hard earned muscle.
After speaking with dr. Emer and discussing my goals - my mind was set. I was willing to go through the surgery for the outcome I wanted.
How was the procedure:
I was nervous despite my confidence in dr. Emer's expertise. After the meds started to kick in, I was relaxed yet aware- a good combination in my opinion.
The procedure was long, but dr. Emer needs his time to work his "magic". I had some sensations of pressure as dr. Emer performed the procedure, but nothing too painful (those meds were good!).
The strangest sensation was when dr. Emer injected fat into various areas - especially my shoulders - it felt like he was inflating my delts - imagine your best pump ever at the gym and then multiply it by 100. Not painful, just a bit strange.
All that said, I understand that Dr. Emer now has patients under full sedation, so going forward patients would have a much different experience than me during the procedure itself.
How was recovery:
I had to wear drains the first week post op. In my opinion, that was the worst part. Once the drains were out, the healing seemed to speed up very quickly. I waited to work out per the doctor's instructions (that was hard for me), but it allowed me heal faster.
I had to wear compression garments for 4 weeks 24/7, which took some patience - but eventually I got used to it and it became just part of my daily routine. Again, I was willing to go through the short term hassle to get the best results possible.
Dr. Emer was extremely responsive to any and all questions I had post op. Since I am not a doctor, I just needed to make sure what i was experiencing was "normal" - it all was.
How were my results:
I am extremely happy with the results. The photos posted are 8 weeks post op. I am now 3 months post-op and I can see all those muscles that I built over the years. I notice the most dramatic results in my abs and my arms. Super happy already and I am told my results will continue to improve over the next few months.
Would I recommend this procedure and dr. Emer?
Yes and absolutely yes.
If you are a good candidate for this type of procedure - I would not trust anyone other than dr. Emer. He knows what is and is not possible - is honest about what to expect - and his artistic eye for the athletic male physique is spot-on.
