After being diagnosed with Advanced Stage 2/Early Stage 3 Lipedema, I decided to have liposuction done by Dr. David Amron. He removed 4 liters during the first surgery and 3 liters during second surgery. The first surgery was incredibly rough. The nurse did not give me enough pain medication and I literally cried through the entire surgery. If I had not already paid for the surgeries in advance, I would not have gone back to do my calves and arms. But you know, what is one to do once they’ve shelled out $25k? Seven days later, I had the second surgery and the nurse looked up my chart from the first surgery and agreed that I could have had much more medication. She promised that she would take care of me. I will say that the second surgery went much better than the first. As a matter of fact, I would say that surgery was actually a breeze compared to an absolute nightmare from the first one. One year later, I still have fat pockets on my inner knees, severe saddlebags on the outer thighs and pain in both my inner knees and saddlebag area. After consulting with Dr Amron and having a ultrasound for confirmation Dr Amron offered to re-do surgery to those two areas. He offered to waive his surgeon fees but I had to cover the cost for the surgery center and travel expenses. I decided to consult with two plastic surgeons that are local and both of them felt very emphatically that liposuction alone was not enough to get rid of the saddlebags. Both plastic surgeons recommended a lower body lift along with additional liposuction. After many months of contemplation, I have decided to go with the plastic surgeon here in the Denver metro area. I am really praying that the pain will finally go away once the rest of the lipedema is removed and that I will no longer be the not so proud owner of 48”saddlebags. Yes, you heard me correctly... I measure 48”around my saddlebags. Crazy, right? This has been an emotional journey and it is a challenge to financially pay for yet another surgery. I am determined to get rid of this disease.. it has robbed me of a normal life for more than 30years. My lower body lift is scheduled for the end of November. I will take pics and update after surgery.
