I underwent lip augmentation along with a fill of my nasolabial folds both using my own fat harvested from my inner thighs. I opted to use a local anesthetic instead of general anesthesia for two reasons. The first reason being that I've been under general before and I believe it should only be used when needed as there can be adverse reactions and it suppresses your breathing (scary), the second reason is that there is a significant price differences, and the third is that I wanted to be discreet and not need another person to drive me to and from the procedure.
The procedure itself was fairly quick and although slightly uncomfortable it was not painful. The actual prepping for surgery was the most time consuming. During the procedure (after the local set in) the Dr used a small mm cannula to extract fat in my inner thighs via liposuction. I could somewhat feel the cannula but only when he was near the area not affected by the local anesthesia. To ensure evenness of my thighs he also liposuctioned the other thigh.
After completing the liposuction, the Dr commenced working on my nasolabial folds. This was the quickest procedure of the three. He made two very small small cuts on either side right below the folds. The cannula was inserted to fill the crease and within minutes that was done.
Next up were my lips. The lips were the most uncomfortable, but again not painful, part of the procedure. I believe it was more the anxiety and the sensation of the cannula ripping through the structure my lips. My surgeon was able to make one incision in the corner of the left side of my lips which he used to access both top and bottom portions of my lips and also the left and all the way to the corners of the right side. Yes I felt it very much so which triggered some anxiety but my surgeon and his assistant were great and talked to me during the entire procedure to help detract from focusing on that.
On to the the results,
I was very explicit with my surgeon with what I wanted. I wanted to maintain the exact shape of my lips while enhancing the overall size. He was very certain to explain every part of the procedure, his method and expected results. I must commend him on his attention to detail and leaving me without a single scar. He was also able to keep the same shape of my lips (The left side of my lip that he entered through did remain more swollen and made my lips appear uneven, still slightly noticeable) Although I did not achieve the desired fullness, which for me was at 3-6 days post op, I have been in contact with him and am very hopeful that I can achieve this with round two.
