So where do I start,
I have always had an extremely high hairline, a really really huge forehead. I'm not the type of person who really looks on social media and compares myself to celebrities or a person who creates an insecurity where there shouldn't be one. I'm a practical person and, practically speaking, my forehead was huge. It distracted from the rest of my face and was the first and only thing people noticed when I met them. and because of my consistent efforts in trying to cover it and the amount of pressure and heat I put on my bangs area, my hair had begun thinning in the corners a bit. I had ALWAYS known I wanted to get this surgery because of obvious reasons but I only wanted to get it done by Dr. Gal Aharonov for multiple reasons. First, Have you seen the before and after pictures on his website??! This guy did miracles. He lowered people's hairline my HUGE amounts and the end result looked so 100% natural, you could never tell these people had gotten their foreheads reduced. But more importantly, HE DIDNT USE A TISSUE EXPANDER. For those of you who don't know, a tissue expander is basically where they put something like a balloon in your head and expand the balloon over the course of a couple months so you literally have your scalp blown up and they do this to create some loosens in your scalp and bring it forward. Almost every other surgeon I researched used this method, which meant that I'd have to have two surgeries (when they insert the tissue expander and months later when they take it out and perform the actual surgery). Also, even with the tissue expander, other surgeon's lowering wasn't by significant amounts (which was necessary for my huge forehead) and the results didn't look natural at all (they all looked something like Caitlyn Jenner's hairline). So after a [RS bleep] ton of research, I decided that Dr. Gal was the way to go. It was a bit pricier than other surgeons in my home state would have charged but honestly, you get what you pay for. So now that I have given you that long intro, let's get into the actual procedure, what to plan for and what to expect in recovery. After I decided 100% about it, I contacted the office through the contact info on his website and got in touch with the INCREDIBLE Faye (his secretary) who is the most amazing human on the planet. I asked her so many questions and she responded promptly every time (except on weekends because the office is closed). Then as the days got closer, I paid the deposit, started taking the vitamins I was instructed to take, and tried to eat healthy (not really) and avoid a lot of salt. On the day before the surgery, I flew to LA and had a consultation with Dr. Gal where he showed me even more pictures of previous patients and it just made me more excited because oh my he is a magician. We went to a mirror and he got a feel for the flexibility and laxity of my scalp. He said that he was hopeful that he could make some difference and I was excited and at ease because I knew I was in the hands of a true professional. That night, I took two antibiotic pills that Faye gave me and stopped eating and drinking at midnight. The next morning, I showed up and signed into the surgery center and got inside. I was given scrubs and a gown to change into and the anesthesiologist and nurse, who were both so nice, introduced themselves to me and put an IV in my arm for some hydration. They also gave me a super warm blanket that is heated to, I guess, raise my temp or keep it elevated for when I'm unconscious, I'm not sure but I was super cozy. Then Gal came in and drew his plan on my forehead and I saw the plan and was in love but also didn't think he could really lower it by that much because it was a significant amount and he only said that would be his goal.
Side note: FOLLOW GAL'S ADVICE, HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. People who have had large foreheads will come in and want their hairline as low as humanly possible because they are paying a lot of money and want the maximum effect and complete opposite of what they've struggled with their whole lives but HE KNOWS FACE and he knows what will enhance your face by removing distractions versus what will throw your entire face off balance.
Ok so back to the surgery, after we agreed on what I wanted and decided that the lines he drew were amazing, he said he'd see me soon and left. At that point, the nurse came in and took me to the room. after I got on the operating table, I guess at some point they changed the bag attached to my IV because they started asking me questions, and I remember answering maybe one but everything is a blur and I was out cold. When I woke up my head was wrapped up and I was floating in and out of consciousness. The nurse helped me get dressed and I was wheeled out of the facility to my ride. That night was kind of rough because I couldn't really sleep. I woke up every hour like clockwork. I felt SO much tightness on my head and part of that is because of the wrapping bandage around my head. The pain wasn't unbearable, it was just discomfort. I Think what made it more difficult was having to stay elevated, almost like I'm sitting up, the whole night. It is so important to stay elevated but Dr. Gal will stress that too. What I feel like should be stressed even more is ICE, ICE, ICE. There are some patients that experience no visible swelling, and Dr. Gal will tell you to ice the back of your neck and your eyes. I felt a lot of stress and a bit of swelling on the back of my neck so I iced that the whole night. But there was really no swelling on my face so I barley iced around my eyes and my face, I iced it a bit but not anything near as much as I did my neck. And my face the next day and much of the first week was blown up like a balloon. It was pretty bad and I know its because I didn't ice my face all that much. Just please Ice everywhere A LOT especially? for the first 24 hours (you can sleep though, don't think you have to stay up all night to ice). So the next day I went back, got the bandage taken out, LOVED what he did, he did exactly what he drew, again he is amazing. And the rest was recovery. It took a couple days for me to start feeling like myself again. I had never had surgery so, in my excitement, I don't think I really prepared myself in terms of really grasping the magnitude of going through surgery. The fact that my face was swollen didn't help. And I just felt physically weak, stayed in bed for about three days, only getting up to shower and eat. As weak as I felt, I was specifically instructed to wash my hair every day and keep gently scrubbing the incision, I hated that part but I did it anyway because you want to keep it clean. By day four or five, I got my energy back and would wear a hat to walk around or go somewhere. A week after the surgery, I went back to Gal's office and I got my sutures removed. At that point the swelling on my face had gone away but there was some swelling on my temples, and my temples were so tender. I had a very limited range of motion and could barely turn my head, and the top of my scalp felt 100% numb and dead. But once I got my sutures removed, within a couple hours, I felt less tightness and pressure on and around my head and it got better every day after that. My scar became less and less noticeable and the little bumps along my hairline began to fade. Make sure to keep your head elevated even for the first week not as much as the first night but to a degree.
