Major Complications Following Genioplasty
I have a very very uncomfortable feeling of pulling, cramping and "stuck" feeling in my chin after my genioplasty 2 years ago! My main complaint is the extreme discomfort I feel when I speak. I haven't had one conversation where I wasn't in pain or discomfort. Did anyone have a similar complain, and how did you go about fixing it?
Thank you!

hi everyone,
sorry for the dramatic title but I really want to share my experience and see if anyone has experienced something similar so please comment if you can provide any insights! would greatly appreciate it.
I had sliding genioplasty, BSSO (moving jaw forward) and 4 wisdom teeth taken out earlier this summer. This was done to correct an overbite.
My biggest issue right now is I am finding it very uncomfortable to talk, chew or even move my lips. Everything feels so tight, stiff and heavy. I can open my mouth fine and wide, but when I go to close my lips, I notice a stiff resistance or pulling sensation that makes it uncomfortable to do so. Puckering my lips when saying "oo" or making kissing faces as well as pursing my lips is also very tight and uncomfortable. It feels like an elastic band being stretched. My lower lip and chin feel heavy, almost like cement. I only noticed this tightness and altered sensation after 3-4 months post-op. I was really numb right after the surgery so maybe I couldn't feel much but the past 3 months this sensation has been so bothersome! My chin and lower lip still feel fuzzy but I would say I've regained 85%-90% feeling and I have some altered sensation (i.e., if I scratch my bottom lip and area of my chin will also feel the scratching sensation, if I put a cold back to my lip then I will also feel coldness in my chin). I still get involuntary twitches, some itching etc which may seem that the nerves are still healing?? I also have a band of scar tissue across my genioplasty incision site.
Please please please let me know if anyone else has experienced this sensations following wisdom teeth extraction and/or BSSO and/or sliding genioplasty. Is it something that got better and was resolved with more time? I am so so so so scared that I might have to live like this forever. I am so depressed and sad all the time. You never really understand how much you take basic things like talking for granted until it becomes difficult and uncomfortable to do so. Is it just the scar tissue, muscles nerves adapting to their new position and with time things will start to settle and feel better? I'm so worried because on forums I see people who got other similar and more invasive jaw surgeries feel back to normal after 6-12 weeks.
I now know that cutting bones in the face is a very invasive procedure!! As far as my review goes I would not recommend orthognathic surgery or genioplasty for cosmetic reasons. The risk profile is simply too high and in my experience surgeons are not truthful about the frequency of complications. It may be worth it for severe functional issues like sleep apnea, TMJ pain etc...but for simply correcting a slight malocclusion, please reconsider....not worth!! Nerves are a scary thing to mess with!
Please comment similar experiences!! I'm praying that this is an issue with stiff/stubborn scar tissue and in a few months, maybe years, everything will settle and I will feel better. I'm so worried. I have been so antisocial in my bed all day just so I don't have to talk and feel uncomfortable. I keep thinking about how much straining to talk will effect my future career and personal life like helping my future kids with their homework. These past 2-3 months have been miserable!!
