Back to my old self...kind of

myBreastFrenz
WORTH IT$9,150
So, I went back to the gym last week. I'm not really talking about the elliptical machine or stationary bikes at 24 hour Fitness. It's more like high-intensity interval training and heavy weights (similar to crossfit). I was so worried! I didn't know if I would displace an implant, pop a stitch, rupture something, or whatever else. However, I did survive! My muscles were so sore, and my cardio sucked and had to stop so many times (this is coming from a long distance runner with a resting heart rate of 48bpm). But I managed to go 5 days straight.

I have to say, what got me through it? A damn good sports bra! I laid off push ups, wall balls (throwing a 10lb ball against up against the wall) and pull ups. However, I did run, sprint, kettle bell swings, planks, used dumb bells, thrusters (lifted over my head 55lbs), and many more leg and ab movements. Those felt just fine. I had to do hundreds of jump ropes and that felt a bit funny. I would try to avoid that if I can a little longer. The doctor told me to avoid direct chest exercises for another month. I'm completely fine with that.

For those active women out there, I have to say, just be patient. Let your body fully heal and only do what's comfortable to start with. But there is hope in regaining the activity level you had before your new body.

My BA is scheduled for this Thursday and I'm freaking out over 3 weeks without a workout. I've been hitting the gym harder these past three weeks thinking I will overdo it now to makeup for it later. I know it's a mind game, but this has me worried more than the recovery.
January 20, 2015
I can imagine how you're feeling right now with it just around the corner. I did the same thing as you. I hit the gym harder and worked out till the day before surgery. But I do think that helped a lot with recovery. The muscle tightness with the breast tissue stretching is uncomfortable. But I think being in shape helped me recuperate much faster. The Dr. did give me the green light to do mild cardio like walking, biking and the elliptical without arms after just a month. I didn't do any of course. I wish I did though just to keep my mind focused on a steady activity. Like you said, it's a mind game. Sitting there recovering will be hard but just know it's very very important.

I was just curious if you were cleared to wear bras without underwire yet and if so, what size you are now?
January 20, 2015
The doctor actually cleared me to wear wired bras during the day after my 2 week post op. I was told not to wear bras with push up padding like add-a-size because it will deform the bottoms of the implants. Written instructions I got during surgery said 1 month but the doctor said I was healing well. At VS I'm a full 34C/32D.

I just noticed you wrote "without underwire". I've actually been wearing the Genie Bra since 2 weeks post op as well when I feel like resting from wires. It's very comfortable around the house but I do feel the weight if I wear it too long running errands. I'm worried about bottoming out so I keep them as supported with wires and sports bras as much as possible.

Hi there! I was wondering if you've noticed any rippling at all, for example, if you move position, like leaning forward? I'm starting off looking like your before pics, so I am curious to know if we might have the same experience? Thank you!! ( :

thanks for your posts. I'm an active girl too and worry about how long I'd be out of it.

Thanks for sharing your before pics and journey. I swear this is like looking at the mirror! I have saggy nipples too from breast

Feeding my now 3 year old son. And deflated : (

Hey ref the saggy nipples I think it's something to do with the numbness and loss of sensitivity, every time I take my compression bra off they kind of look floppy and almost bent haha...they are improving loads now though as regained sensitivity (and then some) ha ha I'm sure they will resolve x

: )Thanks for sharing! You're lucky in that if you were asymmetrical, you can't tell! (I noticed you had 325cc & 350cc...) I am definitely two different sizes AND shapes after over 4.5 years of nursing my 3 kids. I wonder what Dr. Kim will suggest for me..I just sent him my before pics yesterday. I have to say that you give me hope that I may get a result as nice as yours( :

Exercise post op

myBreastFrenz
I got clearance to start bringing back my exercise routine. I can't do chest exercises for another month. For the first time in 5 weeks I went jogging 2 days ago. I doubled up on my sports bra but I still felt he girls bouncing. I don't know if that's normal because I literally had nothing to bounce before my surgery. I got to run 2 miles and had to stop because I felt some muscle pain on my right pecs at 1.5 miles. It scared me. I also couldn't breathe well from the two bras. I think it's time to invest in really good bras.
I tried jogging again today and again with 2 bras. The muscle pain came much sooner and after only running for 5 minutes. I'm so bummed. I love to run. It clears my mind and my alone time. I hope all I need is time and not because my implants are too heavy for my small frame.
I started lifting light weights instead. I didn't do anything heavier than 30lbs and just worked on my legs and glutes. That felt just fine.

For those that started running after your BA, can you tell me what your experience was like? Thanks!

Ok so I don't have a BA yet but my sister and I were always in the D to DD cup range and we aren't fat girls lol not teeny but not fat. We were both in track when we were younger and my sis was into long distance. Boobs will definitely bounce. Mine still bounce with a sports bra and reg bra together. I imagine your pecs are sore because of all the stretching and bouncing running causes on a newly operated area. One u r fully heeled invest in a fang good running bra. Your boobs cost too much not to lol. Because if you run unsupported gravity will be your enemy. I reccomend a full coverage tight band type sports bra with the thicker straps for your runs. Those held mine down even when they were full of milk. The thin straps r pretty but have no support. The cupped sports bras didn't do much for me when it came to running either. I hope that helped. :)

This is so helpful. I have never had anything up front except during breastfeeding, and I wasn't very active during that time. The whole bouncy feeling is new to me and a by distracting. I've been trying on sports bras and the Victoria Secret ones work great. The least bounce overall and I went for one cup size smaller for added compression. Thanks for the help!

Great :) so glad I could help. Maybe the ones that work, you could take a pic of yourself in and put it up here so other mamas with "new additions" have a bit of insite. I never really thought about it because I had boobs since 11. Lol my mom bought me bras and there ya go haha. I didn't even go up in size when I breastfed except in the beginning. They were just heavier. Now my boobs are smaller then before kids and im weining. Its so weird to me. Anywho, That's what I did too. I bought a smaller tighter size but that was full coverage. stuffed them in there and made them behave! Lol

Hey thank you for this info...I want to get back into running too but also want to protect these big bad beautiesx x
January 1, 2015
Yay! No prob so happy to help ;)
January 19, 2015
Thanks for the info. It's hard to tell if what I'm feeling now (post) versus what i didn't feel before (pre) is normal. So I guess the bouncing is just something i have to get used to. I did purchase the sports bras from Victoria's Secret. I think they're called Incredible. Those do a good job holding down the girls. They're a bit on the expensive side so I'm just waiting for another sale to go crazy and buy one for everyday of the week lol.

My Breast felt like the muscles wouldn't stop contracting on my right after running... It was annoying and this was 4 months post op... Now at 6 months their fine... I notice after the incident on my right breast contracting it now has a harder capsule compared to my left... But they look the same... Just tight to the touch.. I started to feel normal at 5 months and did my usual activities... N I'm hardcore body builder chick. I also thought my breast was getting too close but it subsided with massage and pushing my fingers against the sternum. Hope this helps a bit.

I hope you have a speedy recovery so you can get back to running soon! I always find great sports bras at Marshall's or TJ Maxx. I hear they have pretty decent ones at Nordstrom Rack too!
