Day 1 post-op
Yesterday morning I went in for my procedure, I was definitely nervous and unsure about the whole thing. As soon as I met with my surgeon and anaesthesiologist it calmed me down because they were both so comforting and helpful, I was mainly scared that something would go wrong during surgery but everything went amazingly. Took about 3 hours in total (including anaesthesia recovery), but it was as pleasant and comforting as it could get.
The ride home was a bit rough because it was about 40 mins out, so the bumping around wasn't the best experience. I also had a bad cough because I couldn't clear the mucus before surgery (since they didn't allow water before the procedure) that was probably the worst part of it. So afterwards my throat felt all clogged up and didn't want to drink anything because I wasn't sure if my lips would work I was super out of it.
When I got home it was just clear liquid (juices/water/soups) and meds around the clock. Let me just tell you the first night was rough.. I woke up at least once every hour. It wasn't so much pain it was mostly just discomfort, I'm praying tonight will be easier but it most likely will be similar.
That brings us to today, first full day post op.. not feeling too bad, but my chin is still really uncomfortable when the meds wear off. Trying to slowly get myself off of the pain meds so I'm able to do normal things and not feel so dizzy/itchy. I've been eating soft foods: yogurt, soups, pancakes and lots of juice. My surgeon actually says I don't need to ice at all, and to be honest I'm not swollen. So I'm just doing exactly what he says! I'm so happy that all went well, I just now have to wait a week until these bandages come off. Needless to say I'm very relieved to be done with the most nerve-wracking part. My lower lip has complete sensation in it and can pretty much feel everything else, so no damage occurred so far that I'm aware of.

Ah well where do I begin?
As a young girl (probably around 12 or 13), my best friend and I would take pictures and then talk about how much we disliked our side profile. She HATED her nose, she'd always talk about how big it was and I thought that was the problem with my face because I had no idea what else could be wrong with my face but I actually liked my nose so I didn't get it. After years and years of being hyper aware of cameras and turning my head so my side profile was never seen on film, I stumbled across a youtube video where the person was talking about the correct portions that make up the most aesthetically pleasing face. It said if you hold a pen below your nose it should create a perfect line with your chin. That absolutely blew my mind, I figured out EXACTLY why I hated my face so much. Right after that I began my research / journey of understanding exactly what I wanted for my face, to be completely honest it didn't take super long for me to determine I was going to get the chin implant.. after years of disgust when seeing any pictures taken of me was enough to make me certain I was going to get this procedure.
I searched low and high for the best of the best surgeons in my area, I looked at every single review possible on chin implants. Honestly that was one of the most difficult procedures to find online, it was almost as if no one got them. I don't know if anyone else had the same difficulty finding reviews..? After a long and difficult search I booked my first and last consultation, I did have to pay for the consultation but it went towards the total cost if I decided to go to him. I already knew I wanted him to do mine after seeing his reviews and videos online. During the consultation, he was very upfront and clear with what I should expect and how 90% of the patients he does chin implants on are shocked by their results (bad at first and then they love it) because of how it changes your face 3 dimensionally, it WILL change your the front profile no matter what. I knew from his sheer knowledge of the human body and how it structurally works I was going with him. He explained it very technically and left me with no questions at all. He mentioned how most people with weak chins compensate their chin by closing their mouth shut so their lips touch because it makes their chin/jawline appear to be more prominent, but when their mouth is relaxed their lip kind of droops open and their chin disappears into their neck. That was a crazy realisation for me once again.. this process has continuously blown my mind. Whenever I see pictures of myself when I'm not aware of the camera I notice I look so weird / lazy and what I see in the mirror (because I pull my lip up when I'm looking at myself). After this consultation I booked my surgery for 2 weeks out..
Now I'm about 5 days until surgery and I'm extremely anxious, but am trying to keep my head down working / keeping busy so I don't stress too much about it (plus I need the $$). Getting everything ready and prepped for my post op, my mom will be with me day of, after that she goes back to work but will help me when she gets off work. Does anyone have any post op tips if you're going through it alone for most of the day? I've also allowed myself 2 weeks for recovery because I have quite an active job. Is 2 weeks enough time to feel comfortable and get back to work? I work in the hospitality industry so I interact with guests all the time, I just hope I'm comfortable with my appearance and 2 weeks is enough..

I completely relate to everything you said! I finally figured out it was my chin that was missing, and have always hated my profile. My chin looks similar to yours. I'm getting my surgery on dec. 14, I would love to hear about your healing journey and see pics along the way as I'm super nervous also. What size and type implant are you getting?
I hope I'm a little help along the way, but we'll also be healing relatively close! :) So far my doc said he thinks a small would suit my face best. He also said since I have such a prominent lower lip anything bigger than a small wouldn't look right, but he's going to try other sizes to see what looks good. I'm not sure about the type of implant I'll have to check on that.
My doctor suggested a small extended implant as well, interesting what he said about your bottom lip because I have a larger bottom lip as well. Good luck with your surgery :)
Hey @mmm16, I just saw your pics and I think you should consider a medium implant. Talk to your surgeon. I just had my chin implant put in Sept. and I had a large.
Hey there! How exciting for your surgery tomorrow! I am 2 months post op and couldn't be happier! Some tips: make sure you have some frozen peas, they easily conform to your face for icing. Also get a neck pillow (like the kinds you use on the plane), this will help you sleep and it also helps hold the bag of peas up to your chin while you watch tv, sleep, etc.
What kind of implant are you getting? It looks like our "before" chins are kind of similar as far as how receded they are, I got a large though and I'm so glad I did, anything smaller wouldn't have given me the projection I was looking for. I hope the small works out for you! Excited to read about your journey, let me know if I can help!

Thank you, I just had the procedure this morning! It's great to have someone a bit further down the line to chat with. But honestly I really just trust my doctor, he made it clear that a bigger implant would not work with my anatomy because of how big my lower lip is. Everything went well & I already have the feeling back in my lip! What are your thoughts on going back to work in 2 weeks? I have a bit of an active job I do a lot of walking around.
I'm sure your surgeon knows best! Everyone's face is different, that's for sure.
You'll be perfectly fine at 2 weeks! If healing starts at well from the get go, by week 1 post-op, physically you'll feel pretty normal. Your face will still feel a little different, but you can definitely resume normal activity.

I hope you'll be fine in 2 weeks! I wish you the best for your surgery, I'm sure it will make you more confident. :)
Congratulations on the new and improved you! I had mine done in July and by my one week consultation I was fully up to normal living minus extreme physical activity. I took 10 days off of work and it was more than enough. Take care of your self and just keep icing icing icing.
Good luck!!! Please share the rest of your experiene (:
