About 25 years ago I had reconstructive jaw surgery. About 8 years ago, I started noticing the right side of my lip was drooping lower and lower. I didn't know there was such a thing as a "lip lift" so I just tried to put my makeup on to compensate. Also, since I am 60 year)s old, the upper lift was becoming thinner and thinner. I went to see Dr. Richards to see what could be done. While at the consultation, I asked him what else could be done to "rejuvenate" my face. I also had a mini-face lift and upper and lower eyelids. I would like to get the laser treatment for my wrinkles later (so don't look at the wrinkles). The scar is only 5 months old and you don't see it at all!!! Very easy procedure. While researching about this procedure, I learned that I had way to much skin between my nose and lip (how do you all know this?). Lol...anyway this procedure really made me happy.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am trying to decide about this surgery and have been checking this site almost daily for those who have had positive and negative experiences.
Have you felt that your lips move naturally now?
Is there nostril distortion? One PS with whom I consulted said he does not do lip lifts because they all end up with scars that, at best, make you look like you need to wipe your nose.
Do you have thoughts about that?
Was your lip lift skin only?
How did you choose your doctor?

Sorry for the delay! Yes, my lip lift was skin only but the doctor said he tightens the muscles too (at least I think that is what he said---the point was it will stay!) I was a bit worried about the scar but was willing to chance it because my lips were so uneven. Dr. Richards removed the outer stitches a few days early and instructed me to be very careful. He said that by removing the stitches early, there would be less scarring. This was a very easy surgery (had it with mini-facelift and upper and lower eyelids). I will post pictures during the recovery tomorrow. My nose did swell a bit and nostrils looked uneven for a couple of weeks. Nothing feels tight or in anyway abnormal. I am so pleased with it, just wish I had it done earlier! I picked the doctor (actually my husband did) by reading reviews and everything I read was giving Dr. Richards 5 stars. I went for the consultation and he was very nice. I actually didn't care about that as much, because I just wanted an artistic, talented doctor. He happened to have a great personality too--but I wasn't looking for just that. Haha---I don't think I look like I need to wipe my nose! That's too funny (or not if you look like that!)

This is so reassuring to hear. I would love to be able to talk to you more about it. I'm having this procedure done by dr Richard July 7 and I sent you two or three private messages but am not sure why you haven't responded. I'm just feeling very nervous. How did you amd he decide how much to take out? We're you laying down or sitting up? Did he let you look at the markings before he cut. Does your lip look any different whe you talk? Does your lip flip out a little? See, I have lots of questions that's why I sent you a pm! I hope you respond! Thanks!

I see you have a July 7 date to do a lip lift. I also highly recommend the procedure and think he did a great job on mine in April. Two previous docs had done it with no result. He finally did it right. Scar placement is perfect. Be aware that it does make your upper lip look larger and raises only the center of it. So it does change the curvature a bit. That took some getting used to, and so I apply my lip liner slightly inside the lip line now because of it. But I highly recommend the procedure, and he is very good at it. I did notice that it stretched and flattened the lip below the cupid's bow just a bit. So at seven weeks out (today) I had just a drop or two of juvaderm put below the bow to take away the flattening. Huge difference! It really looks nice now, but the dermatologist had to make sure he didn't get the needle anywhere near the permalip implants done at the same time. I am very, very glad I had the lip lift as I think it made me look far younger. Good luck to you!
