I just created a side by side comparison from before my TT and one month post op. Whoa!!! When I get critical of my remaining lumps and bumps I need to take a look at this!! Thrilled with this result so far.

Day 13

lookahead
Woke up feeling different, more myself today. Perky. Can you stand it? I had another post op appointment and did not really want to go -- the car ride (35 minutes each way) has been distressing. I come home and my abs are in spasm -- tight and painful. One day I dealt with it by taking vicodin. The next time I tried scotch on the rocks. I liked the scotch better. Today I prepared by putting on Spanx higher power (my doc does not use compression), took a vicodin a hour before we left, and concentrated on relaxing my abs during the travel. I arrived home tired, but not as sore. The appointment went well -- doc thought from the looks of things that I was 3 and a half weeks post op, but in reality I will be just 2 weeks tomorrow. I am healing really well!!! So glad for that. Does anyone have experience with recovery without compression? I wonder when I will be comfortable riding in the car? I am beginning to feel housebound and want to get out. Hope all my tt sisters are doing well -- whether recovering or preparing. I love all the support I find here.

I don't have a binder or compression garment. I wore the binder the first 2 days but then I started having issues so my doc had me take it off has told me that I do not need to wear it. Ive been shopping around for some type of compression garment for my own comfort.

I use a tank type, it is the type that goes from waist to right under the boobs so you can wear your own bra. Made by Naomi and Nicole. Very comfy.

Did your Dr. ever explain why he doesn't use compression? I thought it was pretty common. Are you walking upright yet? My back hurts and when I straighten up it pulls my incision so I'm still pretty bent over. Continued healing!

Hi Soon- Compression is what most docs seem to do -- I think about 95% of the people on this forum use compression. But, my doctor wants maximum blood flow to the incision. He says studies have shown no difference in final outcomes between groups that had compression and those that didn't. He believes that he gets fewer healing complications when compression is not used. I have been happy to not suffer with some of the woes that I have read about from compression garments, but I will say that riding in the car the first couple of weeks was very uncomfortable -- not painful, but strange because it felt like my skin and muscles were jiggling separately!! Very disconcerting. I went out in the car today (19 days post op) and things felt back to normal. I am not completely upright all the time, but I can straighten for short periods, then I get tired and hunch a little. Things are still pretty tight in my abdomen. Hope you continue to do well. I am following your journey.

I took my cf off to wash up this morning and now leaving it off for a little while. My skin is sensitive and it needed to breathe! I know what you mean about the skin feeling separate from the body. It feels really odd. The compression helps with that but I do agree that we need maximum blood flow too. Sounds like you're doing great. I hope you continue to heal quickly :)

Hi lookahead stopping by to say hello and hoping your healing quickly.

Hi Myriam- Things are good with me. The past few days I have had lots of energy and feel pretty much back to normal around home. Riding in the car is still uncomfortable after awhile, but that is getting better. My other little problem is my belly button -- I had an umbilical hernia repair and the belly button is still very tender. It limits my fashion choices!!! I cannot stand to have anything like a waistband crossing my belly button. I am wearing high-waisted shapers which are comfortable, but then my pants have to sit above or below my navel. No zippers or buttons -- too uncomfortable still. How are you doing? Are you happy with your results?

I happy with my results. I too feel uncomfortable as a passenger in a car. The sides of my incision hurt when a bump it caught. However, when I am driving the focus is on the road, I don't feel the uncomfort as much. My BB healed pretty great. The only thing is that it does feel weird if I touch it, I belive it's still numb. I am very sensitive above the bb and also on the scar area. I use a Lipofoam under my garment for comfort and it feels awesome during the day. It also helps with swelling.

Drain OUT!

lookahead
Yipppee! I got my second drain out and have been cleared to shower. I thought when I got this news I would rush home and jump into the shower. Trouble is, I am beat. I spent about 2 hours getting to the doctor, having my appointment, and getting back home and now I feel too tired to enjoy a shower. Plus riding in the car is quite uncomfortable still -- I use a big pillow between my body and the seatbelt, but it still bothers my incision. Plus my doc does not use compression so I have bothersome jouncing of my tender skin when I ride in the car. It all just takes it out of me. I am back in my recliner and catching up with my RS sisters. Hope everyone is doing well.

I had the same issue. I was all excited to be cleared for a shower and by the time I got home was too exhausted and went to bed instead. I took a shower the next day and believe me you will need a nap after!!
