I am a physician myself and started Careprost (generic Latisse) in late May. I like many physicians was not aware of how serious the fat atrophy side effect could be. It is an under reported side effect that has been written up in opthamological research papers but is only now becoming more known in dermatological/plastic surgery circles. My eyelash growth was quite phenomenonal over the past 3 months and I initially did not notice the fat atrophy as I was so focussed on my lashes. It was only when I read about the fat atrophy that I examined my eyelids and realized there was significant fat atrophy in both my upper and lower lids. For younger patients who have more subcutaneous fat, the atrophy may be less noticeable and possibly even beneficial. For the older patient, the change may more likely be a negative one. In my case, it was a negative change and not worth having the longer lashes so I have discontinued use. I would advise all people who try Latisse to make before and after photos and closely monitor for fat atrophy changes. It has been reported that the fat atrophy is reversible but unclear to what extent and if it is reversible after prolonged use.

Have you gotten better? I have the same problem and will stop TODAY after 6 months
I just stopped it less than a week ago so I have not seen any improvement yet.

Thanks for writing a review.  I usually direct people to the FDA warnings about Latisse and am amazed by how few people realize the larger risks beyond iris darkening.  I'm sorry you experienced the fat atrophy- it does seem to be a much larger issue than advertised.

I think that it has been hard to believe even for physicians that a topical treatment at such a small dose could possibly cause such change as reducing fat tissue. As a result, I think the side effect has not been taken seriously.

Agree.  Hopefully enough people will continue to report the effects the the FDA's medwatch site.

This stuff needs to be banned.. At what cost are these men and women gaining lashes to end up with aged sunken eyes.. Not worth it.. I'm glad more and more are coming out to reveal the truth hope some of these youngsters wake up to the potential consequences ..
There needs to be a warning that all patients must monitor for fat atrophy changes if they plan to use it. Allergan now lists fat atrophy as a potential side effect but this is not enough to alert patients about the seriousness and likely high incidence of this side effect.
I used it for over 3 years and I experienced peri-orbital fat loss too. I quit using it two months ago and some of the fat is returning, but I don't know if my eyes will fully recover. Check my profile for my review and photos documenting the fat loss and updates showing some recovery. I think if you've only used it for 6 months chances are good for a full recovery, but it may take several months.
This side effect is not rare. I think more and more will come out about this in the next few years.
I would like to thank you for your review because that was what made me look more closely for fat atrophy changes and investigate the research literature. This open forum is great for what real experiences people are having. I have talked to other physicians and they also seem to be unaware of the fat atrophy side effect. When a significant side effect is suddenly noted in a drug that has been available for some time, the company involved often sends an alert to physicians to make them aware of the new side effect. I don't think Allergan has ever done that although they now list fat atrophy as a side effect. Unfortunately, I think that everyone presumes that it is a rare and minor side effect.
I sure know that Lattise has nasty side effects like sunken eyes .. see my review in my profile .. i hope it helps someone.
