Day 2 Post Op

Feel even better on day 2. I've only taken pain meds every 5 hours and no muscle relaxers. I slept fairly well in bed with just pillows propping me up on my back and under my legs. I'm all packaged up in a binder for the next week and will be able to see the results in about 7 days. I can't wait to see my new belly button! The post op appointment goes over drain tube maintenance and any other questions you might have.. but does not allow you to see any stitching. I found out they took out so much skin that it filled a gallon size zip lock bag! Very happy to hear all that is gone. BTW I have had no issues with IBS or bathroom and believe its due to being strict on a easily digestible diet of protein shakes, yogurt, berries, lemon water, coconut water and cooked vegetables with chicken.

Day 1

I don't think they day of surgery could have gone any better. Surprisingly I slept well the night before and I was not too nervous. Everyone made me feel very comfortable and confident that all would go great. The sight of the operating room suddenly makes everything seem real and scary, however the nurse and anesthesiologist were very comforting and made me feel safe. Dr Rand even held my hand till I fell asleep. Next thing I know I woke up being fed crackers and water with no nausea what so ever. My mom and friends were soo surprised how well I did! My recovery has gone with much less discomfort because I didn't need muscle repair.. a decision that was made once they were able to see what's underneath (I've never had children). I had a lot of excess skin because of all the weight I've lost and I have 2 drains instead of 1. All in all day one could not have been a better outcome.

After losing 80 pounds the past 2 years and a total of 120 since my mid 20s the time has come to get rid of all this skin. I lost my weight through a low carb high protein life change and exercise. I’ve been spending the past year researching and planning for the right doctor to help me in the final step in my life transformation. It was important to me that the surgeon understood my needs and had experience with someone with the amount of excess skin that I have. My research came down to 2 surgeons in Bellevue for consultation.

Egrari and Rand.

I chose Dr. Rand and can’t be more excited! I love that his office and procedure is attached to the medical center. Dr Rand made me feel comfortable and cared about what really bothered me about my loose skin. He gave me options and realistic expectations on those options. He also told me that he could achieve great results for me with just a standard tummy tuck and not even an extended one. He said a full lower body lift / liposuction was not needed as I do not have excess skin nor fat around my back and mid-section. I’ve decided to go with the standard tuck and not do a vertical scar for the upper ab skin. We both agreed the scar at my age would not be worth it to me and I’m ok with being able to pinch a little by my rib cage. He also took a lot of time explaining procedures to me and listened to everything I had to say without rushing. He is more traditional on approach and technique compared to others but I’m ok with that and feel I’ll be very safe in his hands.

Egrari has a beautiful office and you can tell that his attention for “appearance” is important by the way the office looks, his equipment, his almost doll like looking staff, and his attention to detail in weight loss transformations a (Beverly Hills doc feel) you could say. I have no doubt that he is an amazing plastic surgeon, however I didn’t feel he listened to me in what was really comfortable for me in procedure. I know from reviews that he pushes a full lower body lift often to patients and even those who go in for only a mommy makeover. I was not ready or felt I needed a full body lift and am not keen on the idea of having a scar completely around my body. The quote of $18-20K was also something I’m not ready for.

I left his office feeling sad and hopeful Dr. Rand would be able to consult me with the kind of results and scars I’m ready for.
