I wanted to try HA fillers for quite some time....

I wanted to try HA fillers for quite some time. After seeing amazing results on many of my friends I decided to take the leap and go for it.
I went to a medispa in Bellevue in October of 2017 and the first product I tried was Juvederm Ultra XC which is a great product for first time users. I did 1 full syringe split 50/50 on upper/lower lips. I used only ice to numb for the procedure, no lidocaine cream as the XC fillers contain lidocaine in the product. It was practically painless.

Despite following all the recommended do's & dont's like avoiding alcohol/ blood thinners/exercise after etc I bruised and swelled heavily.
After swelling went down (2-3 weeks) I appeared to have metabolised everything as if the only results I saw were just swelling.

I went back about 1 month later wanting to try a thicker longer lasting product so I opted for Juvederm Ultra PLUS XC because it has larger molecules and is said to be thicker than Juve ultra XC.
This time *with 1 full syringe of ultra plus xc* I used lidocaine topical and personally I did not like how it felt at all, I feel like I bruised even more this time my theory is that the lidocaine topical brings more blood cells to the surface and causes more bruising it also made me drool a lot. And my lips felt tingly and uncomfortable for a long time on top of the discomfort of the procedure which was Stronger this time. However it's hard to tell if that was because of the lidocaine are the thicker formula, the formula still contained lidocaine as well

This time I did swell a bit more and then I ended up with a lot of uneven lumps I even had to go back to get some of the lumps drained (thankfully they weren't that noticeable to other people but I could definitely notice and feel them. )

Once again after about 2 to 3 weeks I feel like after the swelling went down I was left with nothing --I had the lumps to compare and once those were almost flat it felt like I metabolized everything very quickly.
I was getting ready to just kind of give up on lip augmentation all together when I emailed the injector to tell her that I thought I just wasn't the right candidate for dermal fillers and she wanted me to come back to see if she could try a different product on me free of charge. I can't say this will happen to you but I was fortunate enough to be able to try a different product at no cost. This time it was a half syringe of Restylane defyne (which is a little bit more expensive when you purchase it.)

This time I was immediately pleased with the results I had almost no swelling, partly because we use less product than ever before but also due to the consistency of the wrestling to find which is designed to be placed in areas that move a lot. That's why it's perfect for the lips. I had not one bruise or lump. I went to work the next day and didn't get any comments or side eyes or strange looks I don't think anybody noticed I had anything done and if they did they didn't know what.
Today I went back and got more Restylane to find this time on my dime as well as some Botox in my brow area and on the sides of my nose to reduce my gummy smile.
After getting fillers so many times I'm a pro I stay stocked up on arnica tablets and I've had the same tube of arnica cream throughout the whole process, I also have tons of ice packs but I found the best thing are popsicles that are in plastic tubes. I go to my appointments with all of these items, I never drink the night before and I avoid NSAIDs for a week prior I also discontinue supplements or anything that might interact with the filler. And I also bring a lunch box full of ice packs and plastic tube popsicles to my appointment so that I can my lips the entire drive home.
Because I used many different products and went back many different times it's hard to say if the combination or if the product or amount was to blame for my dissatisfaction at first. Having tried both Restylane and Juvederm despite everything I read about Restylane -- I think that is my product of choice due to my own experience. I was told that wrestling Define has been around in Europe for a while under the name Emverel. I really appreciated that I was able to go to work the next day after doing half a syringe with no bruising or swelling and I feel like there wasn't a big difference after swelling went down since there wasn't much to begin with. What I saw right after the injection was what I got. Today I had .7 of my syringe injected into my upper and lower lip, I believe she did a bit more on the top and I have .3 left for my follow-up visit.
