Hello! I decided to add my experience to this site in the hopes that it provides others with the courage to have their implants removed and not replaced if they are considering that option. Thank you to all of the women who have also posted n this topic so I could figure out what my next step would be. Here is my story.
1994 - Had moderate sized saline implants added. No complications and was happy with the results. A cup to a C. Left Breast was almost a cup size smaller than right before surgery.
2007 - Nursed twin boys but still looked pretty good.
2017 - Went in for a routine Mammogram and they found a lump (turned out to be benign). Had a biopsy done and they NICCED MY IMPLANT! Whoops! This turned out to be a blessing in disguise however because I needed to address the issue of having 20+ year implants. Went to several PS to discuss and most recommended removing the old and having a lift and replacement under the muscle. At first I was ok with that but after considering all of the risks I decided to ask the Dr. whom I had decided on if he thought I would have a decent outcome without replacement. He thought I would as long as I didn't expect them to look as full as they did previously. The shape would be good and the lift would even them up and return their perkiness. As I noted above, my breasts were very lopsided before the implants which was still there when the implants were deflated. Because of this, the Dr. said they would never be twins but would be very close sisters! ;) I could live with that..... I AM SO HAPPY I MADE THE DECISION TO NOT HAVE ANOTHER SET OF IMPLANTS! I am so happy with my results and can't say enough about the skillful and caring Dr. and staff at Dr. Sepehr Egrari's practice in Bellevue Washington. So helpful and supportive. Dr. Egrari is an artist, and his nursing staff are top-notch. I am 2 weeks post op and every day feel thankful for their care and support in my decision. Good luck and if you are considering this option I would definitely give their office a call.

Congrats on removing them I’m scheduled for the same in December. So much anxiety. Would love to hear how the scars heal. And did u remove capsule?

Yes the capsules were removed. After the lump scare I mentioned above, I didn't want anything to obscure future breast cancer screenings. Sending you some anti-anxiety vibes!

Hello. Just wanted to add my two cents' worth. I did not have my capsules removed. My surgeon said it would depend on how they looked once he got in there. My implants had been placed on top of the muscle, and I was not having any symptoms of implant sickness. (Mine were saline.) He said my capsules were not calcified or scarred, so he opted to leave them, which meant less dissection, bleeding, and loss of tissue. My surgery was done nine weeks ago, and the scars are healing nicely. I've been using Serica, which is a silicone based cream two times a day. Good luck with your procedure in December!

Oh awesome ! Yea my surgeon wants to leave my capsules in too so I was going to discuss the complications with him but I haven’t had any symptoms either so that may be the route we go. Thank you for sharing with me!

Congratulations!!! I had the exact same procedure done on August 2, and I could not be happier! Every surgeon I consulted until finding the doctor who did my procedure said I did not have enough breast tissue left to have an acceptable cosmetic result and tried to convince me to get a smaller set of implants placed sub-muscularity. I was adamant about not having implants, and ultimately found a doctor who had the skill to give me beautiful results with just the implant removal and lift. I'm so glad you are pleased with your results! You look great!

Hi, would you be willing to share a little more about your recovery? I have had 2 breast augmentations with Dr. Egrari, and within 5 months of my second procedure I developed capsular contracture, very uncomfortable and painful at times, it's been another 4 months and I want them out so bad. I'm kicking myself for even having the second procedure, should have taken them out then. I have 2 little boys so with both previous surgeries, I had to ask friends for help with driving my kids etc. I'm wondering if you thought removal and lift was any easier? I remember with my first augmentation, just having them put in, I could hardly move/raise my arms etc, the second breast aug was much easier, maybe because everything was already stretched out. Wondering with the removal and lift if it's going to feel the same as the first surgery - not able to move arms etc. Need to be able to get back at it quickly with 2 little boys. I know everyone is different, but also I'm curious how long you had drains?

Hi Heather. Although I don't know that much about how plastic surgeons bill, my guess is that it would be unlikely that your surgeon would do another procedure for you at no charge. But it's definitely worth asking him or her!! Here are two things to consider...1.) If you recently had your lift, it's best to let your body recover for at least 6 months before embarking on another surgery. 2.) If you opt to have the implants removed, you may end up with a lot of loose skin, depending on how much natural breast tissue you have, and how much your skin will contract once the implants are removed. A lot of younger women on Real Self have had really good results with just having their implants removed. Their own breasts seem to "bounce back." So you may be fine just removing the implants and not end up needing another lift to deal with excess skin. I'm 63, and I knew there would be no "bouncing back" for me. If you trust your surgeon, it's a good idea to discuss your various options with him/her. And if you don't like what you hear, get some other opinions from other surgeons. Good luck!!
