Hi everyone. I didn't really want to write this review but i figured it might help someone out. I came on this website and read stories that helped me out a lot too. Anyways, a little bit about me...I started noticing the asymmetry of my eyelids when i was around 10 years old. It didn't bother me all throughout childhood/high school because i didn't wear too much makeup. As i started wearing more makeup during my college years, the asymmetry started to be more noticeable and that's when i started really thinking about asian eyelid surgery. i researched the topic and doctors for half a year before i actually went in to get it done. And even though i'm sorta depressed at the moment with my recovery, i don't regret it one bit.
I had my surgery done at Dr. Philip Young's office in Bellevue, WA. He has a website up that has a lot of information and did answer a lot of my questions so my consultation with him was brief and was just us getting to know each other. He and the people in his office made me feel very comfortable and i felt like i was in good hands. They allowed me to pick which anesthesia route i wanted to go with and I chose local anesthesia with oral sedation. IV sedation would have been an additonal $1k.
I was a nervous wreck the day of surgery, which i was scheduled to check in at 10am. I work nights and worked from 11pm-730am the night/morning before surgery..hoping that working myself out would calm my nerves. It sorta did. So, after i checked in, they gave me a gown to wear and Dr.Young then went over with me on what crease lines i wanted. He first used his marker to show me how my eyes would look like with normal creases(i felt like they were low creases) and i kept telling him higher, higher. I told him i wanted a med-HIGH crease. I was worried that aging will eventually lower the crease if i get it too low and I've seen a lot of pics of people who've had this procedure done and after time, their crease lowered to the point where they basically look like they did before having the procedure done. In the end, i decided to go with a medium crease. I didn't like how a high crease made me look like i'm high on weed, like i have sleepy eyes. Don't ask me my measurements because i don't know. I also see some people who gets lost and regretful when they compare their measurements to others, which i didn't want to happen to me, so i didn't ask him what measurement he was going to cut at. After we agreed upon with the crease, one of Dr.Young's RN came and gave me 1 pill of valium right before prepping me up for surgery. Didn't really help but good thing i was already tired from working. During the start of the procedure, there was absolutely no pain. I've had many teeth taken out and other cosmetic surgeries where the initial anesthesia injections were beyond painful and i've never had anyone inject anesthesia like him. It's like he has magic hands. Anyways, i was awake the whole procedure. The valium, background music, and lack of sleep kept me calm throughout the procedure. I did feel 2/3 pokes of pain when he worked on my right side. It took maybe two hours for the procedure. I was prescribed hydrocodone and that helped with my pain for the next couple days. Had my stitches removed on day 5, went back to work on day 10.
All in all everything went smoothly. I was easily able to get a hold of Dr. Young post-op with any questions thru a phone app. He always got back to me right away. I would highly recommend him if you're planning on going thru with this procedure up in the pacific NW. You'll be in good hands with him and his nurses. This recovery process is just super hard and depressing. It's also hard to take extra care of my eyes when i have a 16 month old boy to take care of too. I feel like i'm one of the slower healers because i'm still pretty swollen right now at day 22, even though i'm still icing and applying prescribed ointments. I try to avoid going anywhere now. Ever since surgery day, my right eye have been looking bloodshot due to the surgery probably breaking one of the blood vessels in my eye. That broken blood vessel is also healing very very slowly. Lately i've been having bad days where i would wake up and my eyes would feel swollen like how they were in my first week post-op. My eyes are also still asymmetrical but i guess nothing i can do now but hope for the best. Thanks for listening to my story.

How's your condition now? Improved? Your problem is exactly what I'm worried about.

Thank you! This was VERY helpful. You look fantastic! It sounds like it takes a while to heal which is good to know the process can be slow. Hope you are feeling great! :)

Are you feeling pressure and tightness in the lids? Because that's my concern right now. I'm 3 weeks post op and healed very well...

That's awesome that you're healing very well! Yes I do feel pressure and tightness. I have a lot of swelling and my eyelids are still tender so I haven't been able to put on any makeup yet. My eyelids also aren't closing all the way yet when I'm blinking or sleeping so I'm suffering from severely dry eyes.

At which month were you able to close your eyes all the way?! I’m dealing with the same problem and I’m at day 6. Dr. Young said if it’s not getting better, he might have to loosen up my eyelid because my eyes will get too dry. Please answer thank you.
