I am currently scheduled for a tummy tuck with some flank lipo in 2 days. I'm super nervous as I've never been under anesthesia for anything before. I've found this site very helpful in reading about the procedure, recovery, etc. However, I didn't find a whole lot from people in situations like mine so thought I'd write in hopes my experience will help out someone else like me.
My background: I am 45, no kids, live alone, no boyfriend currently. I own my own dog training/boarding business. My job is very physical and I do almost all of it by myself. Besides the physicality of my job, I also work out with weights 3 -4 times a week and do about 30 minutes of cardio 2 -3 times a week. I also do yoga whenever I can.
I have had a poochy, flabby tummy since I was 15. I was on the swim team and started getting self conscious about it in high school. I was on swim team year round, did weight training several times a week and also played volleyball or ran track in their respective seasons. All this and I still developed a stomach. Over the years I tried so many diets and ab flattening techniques to no avail. I even tried Coolsculpting. (save your money, btw) Over the past 4 years I started seeing a nutritionist and have been religiously gluten free, sugar free, grain free, you name it but again, not losing the belly weight. The nutritionist really helped me learn how to eat very healthy and the rest of my body actually lost some weight and I've maintained it well. So after all this hard work, I finally decided on a tummy tuck!
My mom will be here the first 5 days post-op to help me out, then I have friends staying over for 2 days after she leaves. Then I'm on my own. I have classes that I am scheduled to teach the evenings of days #8 and #9 post-op. The surgeon thinks that if I just sit and teach and do NOT handle any dogs, I should be able to do it. I'll have an assistant in each class and I found a back up instructor just in case I can't make it there. I've also been able to shut down the boarding portion of my business until Jan. 12th which is 10 days post op.
I'll do my best to keep posting my progress while I'm by myself and trying to run a business.
Happy New Year!

It's less than 24 hours post op. I am sore and incision site burns a bit but it's all quite bearable. Word of advice- don't wait until the meds completely wear off before taking the next dose! I did that once yesterday and while I lived (obviously) it feels like really, really bad menstrual cramps!
The fabulous news is that the surgeon did not have to do any muscle repair! No tightening or repair needed. This should really speed up my recovery!
I am finding that being in the recliner works best. It's easiest to get in and out of. Also, laying flat on the couch or bed is less comfortable. My mom does have to help me get up and down and also checks my drain and records the fluid amount every 4 hours. I was able to eat a small meal about 2 hours after getting home yesterday. No post anesthesia nausea. On my way to my first post op appt. in a few minutes but I must say that I am already feeling pretty confident about being able to do all this alone by next week!

Feeling pretty good so far! I am only taking 1 percoset every 4 hours today instead of two and that seems to be holding the pain off just fine. My back and flanks where the lipo was done are sore today but just a bruising-type soreness. I am able to get in and out of the recliner better on my own today although trying not to really move all that much. . Still need help with my drain as holding the tube, repinning it, etc. is easier with a second person but overall, I'm doing a hundred times better than I really thought I would be!
