Know What You Are Getting into Before Microblading

I had my eyebrows microbladed over 2.5 years ago. At the time, there was not a lot of info about microblading and the effects in the long run. Just how it was different from tattoo and fades/disappears after 1-3 years. At the time, I took the info as microbladed eyebrows just disappearing off my face after a few years.
So going in with little (and wrong) information I had them done by a great technician. Didnt hurt a bit and I was left with fleek eyebrows by the end of it. My original eyebrows were not sparse or thin but I felt that it was short for my face proportion. She did shave of the ends of my eyebrows to accomodate for the new shape. Also to note: my hair was constantly dyed caramel brown and I had lightened up my eyebrows to match. She did them in the red/brown/orange color to match my eyebrows and also did a "shading" technique (ink between the hairline strokes) so it would last longer.

I am not going to call her out since she did only what I asked for and I was happy overall for a good year afterwards. However- I do wish now that she would have informed me more on how much it really 'fades' and since it is semi-permenant, add extra emphasis on "permanent". She spoke as if it would just fade and disappear off my face.

Fast forward 2.5 years.... I am left with a sad orange reminder of my mistake. I had stopped dyeing my hair and eyebrows and started to let my eyebrows grow. Now, I am left with a weird blurry, patchy, orange/red eyebrow that runs past my original brows. Oh, and I have two tails. Great. While I can shave my original tail- I am still left wth 2 different color brows - I use eyebrow pencil to kind of "fill in" gap between the tailsloo

Researching once again on removal methods - I found out that red/orange are extremely difficult to erase compared to dark ink for laser treatments. Currently I am exfoliating and using retinol hoping it is an answer to my prayers before going into the extremes of finding a harsher treatment. Also if it helps: I have thin and dry skin which might explain why it does not fade quicker.

Hopefully this brings some awareness and you dont end up making the same mistakes I made. Love your thin/sparse/thick/curly eyebrows. If microblading is the only answer- make sure you are aware of the downsides.

I whole-heartedly agree. People are mislead into thinking it'll just gradually disappear without a trace in 1-2 years, and it's just not the case. It tends to fade into weird colors. Or worse, for me, it actually turns out they went TOO deep with the strokes and actually gave me permanent tattooing. Always ask for the brand of ink being used and research the ingredients too!

Very helpful post - thank you!
I feel for you... my brows also turned orange/brown (salmon) after a year. After saline removal, microneedling, and retinol, they lightened up a lot. However, the residual ink was still there. I finally went to for a consult for laser and am so glad I did. The Enlighten laser turned the ink a shade of grey - which was an improvement- and that grey continues to lighten. Some areas are totally healed and without ink. Good luck.
