.....and done!

WORTH IT$5,500
I finally found a new orthodontist out here, and he agreed with my previous Ortho about my progress. So as of today, all of my 16 attachments are off and I'm still wearing my last liner, but they don't fit as well with my attachments gone. My new Ortho is making me just a clear simple liner to stabilize my teeth, and that is a tight fit. I will hopefully be getting that tomorrow! I'll wear that for about a month, and if everything still looks good, then I'll get my retainers.

I have enjoyed reading your posts, especially since your teeth look a lot like mine do. I am only on Week 2 of liner 1 and have at least a 15 liner journey ahead, but your posts have given me inspiration that I can make it through this long process. Thanks!

You will be shocked at how fast the time will fly by- I just began my treatment in March and I had 21 liners (but only wore 20). You'll be done in no time, but of course you'll have to factor in refinements. I got EXTREMELY lucky with the fact that my teeth were super compliant with the liners, and although they were not invisible, the 16 attachments I had helped out a lot too. My case was rare in Invisalign world, but I am proof that it is possible.

The first two liners were the most difficult for me- after that, they didn't really bother me, and I almost preferred to have them in. Getting them out with your attachments will become much easier (I read your posts!) and realizing that if you don't have them in for 22 hours a day for one day, won't hurt your progress! Once you start seeing progress it will all be worth it, so take pictures every couple of liners. It's crazy how different your teeth will look and feel! Also, I'm always here for questions and tips, especially since our teeth are similar, and not a lot of people on here had an overjet/open bit issue!

I would like to begin the invisalign process, and I think your results are amazing!! I am writing because I would also have to move mid-process and I am wondering about how that would work. My current dentist seems hesitant to start me on invisalign if I couldn't guarantee I would finish under his care, and also seems to think it would be more expensive for me as well. What was your experience switching providers? Did switching drs mid treatment cost much more than had you stayed with the same dr? Was it much trouble finding a dr. to take you on mid-treatment? thanks for any info!!

Hi! Sorry for the delayed response! My first recommendation would be to shop around for different providers, and usually I would choose an orthodontist over a general dentist-I've found that Orthos tend to be a bit more accommodating when it comes to braces/Invisalign.

When I first started Invisalign in Oregon, I paid for my entire treatment and my Ortho's time. My treatment included: full set of Invisalign, two refinements, teeth whitening, and retainers. I got 5 liners at a time and went in every 10 weeks. I paid just over $4,000 for that package, and honestly paid a little bit more because my case was a bit more complex and I wanted to go with an Ortho who was a top Invisalign provider.

When I found out I was moving I immediately panicked, then made an appointment with my Ortho. They all were EXTREMELY understanding (I'm sure I wasn't their first patient to move out of state) and we started working on a plan for me. I was in my final stages of my treatment (I was in liner 14 out of 18) so there wasn't anything major that could have gone wrong, and I think that is going to be key for you to begin treatment knowing you're going to be moving. The other giant thing you have to factor in is how compliant your teeth are with the treatment, because this is where it can get expensive. I was a very rare Invisalign case and was on the track of no refinements when I left my Ortho in OR. So I was given a reimbursement check from my Ortho for my retainers, and the rest of my liners.

When I was looking for a new Ortho in TX I went to the Invisalign website, chose a top provider close to me and made an appointment. Since I was at the end of my treatment when I went to my new Ortho I was terrified he was going to say I would need refinements; after getting my files transferred over and taking the basic scans/pictures, he decided I didn't need them after all. Here's why I prefer orthodontists over a general dentist: there was one tooth that had a minuscule gap in it and instead of spending money to get refinements to fix that, my Ortho made me a clear liner in house that applied pressure and was able to close the small gap.

In terms of cost, if I ended up needed refinements after moving, it would have been an extra $700, in addition to the cost of retainers (which can range between $300-$500). So all in all, you do tend to eat some costs of certain things, but if your teeth are compliant with the treatment designed, then it can end up working out for you.

Sorry for the novel, let me know if you have any more questions!!

Wow, your smile is gorgeous! You had a pretty smile before, but your corrected teeth make it beautiful! I start in a month, my teeth are similar to how yours were. Thank you for sharing! Your detailed account of everything is soooo appreciated!

Liner 19

janderson21
I just finished my regular set of liners, 18 was my "final" one, and I'm now on my first refinement out of 21 total. I am almost done, and it's so crazy to think about it.

Since my last post I have moved out of state, and have yet to find a new Orthodontist out here. My old Ortho said my teeth are moving exactly as my ClinCheck proposed, and he was 99% sure I would not need an extra set of refinements. He also said I could stop my treatment at liner 18, but if I still felt I had gaps that I can wear 19-21. My gaps haven't fully closed from my IPR, so I did choose to wear them, but I'm already seeing them close (more like feeling) within the past couple of days.

I'm feeling a bit nervous about ending treatment. My teeth move fast, and I have really gotten used to having a barricade from my stupid tongue thrust. I try my best to work on that, but let's be real, it's so hard. Has anyone else felt any nervousness about ending their treatment? Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy to get the 16 dumb attachments off my teeth, and to whiten the you know what out of my teeth...but I can't help but feel like part of me isn't ready. I don't know, maybe I'm not ready to let go due to all the money I shelled out for a 8 month treatment?!

Anyway, I attached pictures of where my teeth are at...please ignore the color of them, and the fact that my attachments stick out and make my teeth look crooked!

Liner 14

janderson21
I haven't posted anything for a few liners, but liners 11-13 didn't real show progress. I switched to liner 14 two days ago, and the difference is huge! The gap from my overjet is now completely closed, and the rest of my liners (15-18) and refinements (19-21) will be working on pulling my front teeth down and back. I also had my 6 month checkup at my dentist, and he said to continue what I've been doing because everything looks great. That's always so nice to hear! If my teeth continue to comply, I could be done with my treatment by mid December!

I have an appointment on the 21st to figure out what to do about me moving during treatment. So cross your fingers that it will be an easy transition!
