Clean Shave Concerns. When is the Earliest Date to Remove Transplanted Beard?
In short:
After a beard transplant, when is the earliest I can start removing transplanted hair using laser hair removal or electrolysis?
Longer version:
I had a beard transplant last month (December 10) and already regret it after learning more about the side effects, especially that I can’t shave cleanly anymore. In the clinic they mentioned there should be no problem with a clean shave. But more I learn more I discover they are wrong.
At the moment, everything seems fine—there’s some hyperpigmentation and very tiny bumps, which I believe are part of the healing process. These issues will likely go away, but I worry that in a few months, I might develop tiny bumps and black dots that could stop me from shaving cleanly.
Here are the main reasons for my concerns:
1. The surgery was done in Turkey by two nurses, not by doctor.
2. Too many grafts (3300) were densely implanted on my cheeks and sideburns. Fortunately, my chin was left untouched.
3. Many grafts contain 3-4 follicles.
4. The hair from my donor area is quite thick.
All of these could result in unnatural clean shave.
I hope my worries are wrong, but I want to be ready just in case.
From my research, removing the transplanted hair might be the best way to go back to clean shave. So far, I’ve found three options for hair removal:
• FUE graft extraction
• Laser hair removal
• Electrolysis
FUE graft extraction doesn’t seem like a good choice for me because removing 3300 grafts would probably leave a lot of scars. I’m okay to lose these graft forever.
If I go with laser hair removal or electrolysis, when is the earliest I can start the process after the surgery?
I understand I might still have some hyperpigmentation and scars, but I believe these will fade over time. I’m also open to trying other laser treatments that could improve my skin condition.
If you also have some suggestions for laser treatment, feel free to leave a comment.
FYI: I won’t aggressively remove all the hair at once but will start with small patch test first.
