Upper and Lower Eyelift-looks Really Good After 5 Weeks - Barrington, IL

My upper and lower eyelids were very 'baggy' and I felt self-conscious about this. I originally was going to have a face lift and my eyes done at the same time, but only had my eyes done and I'm glad I decided to do it this way.
The surgery was really easy-it took about 2.5-3 hours under twilight. I was a little groggy afterwards. I never had any pain from the surgery and only took some Tylenol. But I had a lot of itching and eye watering which is fairly common. The only thing that would relieve the itching was ice cold compresses.
My bruising was fairly mild-I iced for two days and used warm compresses on the third day. My swelling has taken a while to go down, but I read that you really don't see final results for 4-6 months. I'm happy with the results so far. I see my doctor for my third post op check this week and I want to hear what he has to say. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!
I still have a hard time putting on makeup because my eye lids are slightly numb. I did have an allergic reaction to some makeup and was put on steroids. That made the swelling go down faster and I recommend that all patients go on a steroid pack after surgery. It would have made my life easier.
My husband did comment that he didn't realize I would look so 'beat up' after surgery! I lost 25# before the surgery since I thought I was also having my face done. Now the problem is that I look gaunt so I want to talk to my dr. about options. That's one of the problems for me - I want to look perfect and my eyes will. But then I look at the rest of my face and think about what else I should do. My husband is putting a limit on me in terms of future surgery, but I hope to get around this obstacle! I can definitely see how someone can get addicted to plastic surgery!

I saw my dr. today, 1/26/10, and he said that my progress is good for 5 weeks post op. Nothing is wrong and what I am experiencing is normal. There is still some swelling and inflammation. But I feel fine and it looks pretty good-better than before surgery. I see him again in two months. Update at that time.
