Let’s start by saying where I did undergo the treatment. To get rid of the unwanted and socially awkward source of sweat I decided it had to be done at the sweat capital of the world: Bangkok, Thailand. Or maybe it had something to do with the cost of the procedure. I can’t remember.

Let’s introduce myself first. I’m Peter and I’m an extreme sweater. Especially in social and stressful situations. It does not matter if it’s in northern Alaska or right on the center of the equator. To give you an idea: Since I’ve been traveling through Thailand rumors are spreading that the source of the river Kwai is hidden in my armpit. In that case the river actually has two sources. I don’t have to explain that this is highly uncomfortable so I’ve decided to go for the drastic procedure. I never tried Botox but I don’t like temporary solutions. They just seem highly inefficient and cost a lot more in the long run. I went for Miradry.

As I’m a fairly tall specimen, they did not call me “2 meter Peter” in college because I’m a dwarf, the local clinic had the great idea to put the machine on microwave setting 5. The highest setting possible. At my arrival in this beautiful country I already noticed that The Thai don’t mess around. Drug related crimes will in most cases result in death penalties or life sentences and I was about to find out they also don’t mess around with anesthetics. A good fifteen minutes per armpit and numerous little bearable stings later you could fire a shotgun on my armpit - and I would notice nothing more than the sound of it. At this moment I was not completely aware of that yet so I was kind of skeptical when the friendly lady started with the first of (what I thought were) 54 little microwave sessions on my right armpit. I could not believe it. I felt nothing.

There were 54 marked points per armpit but like I said before: the Thai don’t mess around. To make sure I would be a satisfied customer when I left the clinic they did the middle 15 points twice. That’s 69 times per arm. On the highest setting. You can imagine I was in complete fear of what was coming when the anesthetics stopped working later that day. But so far so good. I have not experienced a bit of serious pain during the whole procedure.

3 hours later. 5pm. I’m completely fine and having an early dinner before the expected pain kicks in. I even did some shopping today and arranged a night train the next evening. Even in the Bangkok heat and humidity a only had a tiny bit of sweat under my left armpit. I would say 10% of what it used to be. When I got back in the hotel room to check out my armpits in the mirror. I could not believe what was seeing. It’s like Mike Tyson went ballistic on each armpit and then tried to suck up the bruises with a vacuum cleaner. Pain is fine though. I would say a 2/10.

Dinner was very nice! Around 8pm I’m starting to feel a lot more pain. To take my mind off the pain I take a few painkillers, use ice packs and watch some Netflix. Screw this. Even some exotic Thai painkillers do not help. I consider myself someone with a pretty high pain tolerance but I’m in complete agony. I’m man so at this moment I’m thinking I may die soon and the worst idea seems to be going on that night train the next day with no medical assistance on board. From about 5am until 8am I’m finally able to get some sleep. Pain: 9/10.

The next morning I wake up and feel oddly comfortable. I just walked to the shower like I have a basketball under each arm. The swelling is intense but the pain level has dropped like Bill Cosby’s popularity since the sexual assault allegations. A nice 2/10 again. At this moment I’m thinking why I go to the gym so often. If you want some awesome bi- and triceps you might as well visit a Miradry clinic.

While I’m writing this I’m on the night train and had no problems during the day. I walked around, had lunch and no single drop of sweat showed up under my armpits. So far so good. The swelling is already getting less but the bruising is not. This will probably take a week or two but that’s fine. Completely happy I did the procedure! I might update this post if something unexpected happens. If I did not update the sweating had dropped significantly and I’m still happy as Larry.
